Introduction to the English Legal System par Martin Partington
Thorough, clear, and thought-provoking - I have to admit to being a little surprised (as a non-lawyer) at how involving this introduction is, which I put down to equal parts being victim to the kind of prejudice to which the author points out, and the excellence of his text.

Not a light read, but rewarding.
