Like having your own museum of life in 1940s!,, September 17, 2014

This review is from: Wartime Scrapbook: From Blitz to Victory 1939-1945 (Scrapbook Series) (Hardcover)
(Reviewing 1995 edition, which has a different cover to one illustrated)

Not a read so much as a visual extravaganza; every page of this large hardback is a collage of items from the era of World War 2. Assembled in subject order, they give the reader a real 'feel' for life as it was then: from the pages on 'Dig for Victory' (leaflets on gardening - seedpacks - a page from the Radio Times - a cute poster) to the double spread of kids' games and books ("Hang out your washing on the Siegfried line": the new blackout game - the Field Services Painting Book -Epics of the War jigsaw). Each topic has a little handwritten text to explain the items.
As a female reader who has little interest in things military, I really liked this book, which focusses on life at home. A chance to reminisce for the older generation, a museum trip for the younger.
