Dennis McIntyre (1942–1990)

This play about a black cop killing a white perp in a fit of rage at his racist taunting is made more powerful by the recent events in unarmed black youths being killed by white cops. The play does not try to make the black community into villains out to shoot white men just for fun; it runs through the tortured experience that many individuals have around this situation, and opens for debate the issue of responsibility and ethics. The cop struggles to decide whether he should throw away his life and his career by telling the truth, or whether he should present it as a case of self-defense. The author does not skirt around the difficult issues, but meets them head on. The touchy subject of racial tension is crucial to the plot. Overall, a satisfying work on most levels, but still seems like something is missing. I can't quite put my finger on it.… (plus d'informations)
