This was a great prequel to These Still Black Waters, the new Jess Lambert series. It gives you some insight in who Jess is and really helps to develop her character. It was suspenseful and surprising - there were several good twists. I look forward to reading the next in the series, What Lies In Darkness. Thanks to NetGalley for the digital ARC.

I received an advanced reader copy of this book.

If I could give it more than 5 stars, I would. This is a fabulous book.

Eva Hansen is the main character of this book. Eva wakes up in the hospital after being struck by lightning. She finds out her mother's been murdered and she's the main suspect. She doesn't think she could kill her mother, but she doesn't remember anything from the night. She decides to go to London (where her mom used to live) to see if she can find answers. She discovers some deeply held secrets her mom had and begins to wonder who she can trust to find out the truth.

Told in alternating perspectives of Eva's search for answers and her mom's mysterious past, the story is carefully woven together and ends with a definite twist.

This book tells the story of the night Olivia fell and the events that led up to her fall. The book starts out with Abi, Olivia's mother, getting a phone call in the middle of the night with a man telling her that there's been an accident involving Olivia, her 17-year-old daughter.

The story unfolds with each chapter alternating between Abi and Olivia. Abi's story goes through her unraveling the mystery of what happened to Olivia and the events that led up to her fall. Olivia's story goes through her discovery of who her father is (a secret her mother kept from her) and leads up to her fall.

There is some tying up of loose ends at the end of the book but it did leave me wanting more loose ends tied up.

Writing twisty and enthralling thrillers is the amazing Christina McDonald’s forte! I was thoroughly drawn into the hectic, stressful, unpredictable and sometimes dangerous world of Jess Lambert, in her latest novella THE STRANGER AT BLACK LAKE.

Jess and her husband Mac, move to Black Lake, a quiet and quaint town, to start their family. However, Jess’s encounter with a stranger at the local coffee shop has tremendously changed the course of her life, for better or worse?

I am totally blown away by the chilling suspense with some very dark secrets of THE STRANGER AT BLACK LAKE which sets path to the beginning of Jess Lambert series. I truly loved it, and highly recommend it to readers who enjoy such genres!… (plus d'informations)
