The Nun of Monza by Mario Mazzucchelli (Translated by Evelyn Gendel) is a truly amazing book. (My copy, hardcover, published by Simon and Schuster 1963 cost $4.95. Surely this is on of my best purchases.)

A 5-page "translator's Introduction" is followed by 253 pages of amazing narration. It is the account of Sister Virginia's seven years long affair inside a convent. The transcript was long-concealed, but in1957 Mazzucchelli was allowed to read the testimonies of the 1607 trial.

I have read and reread this book and am always amazed at how the voices "sound" in my head. (Bad movies have mangled it.) It is now available in paperback, and I hope anyone interested will find it.

(Today I saw it listed on "books you share" and found none of us had posted a review. The above is a "Quickie.")
