This is a magnificent coffee table book with a good mix of colour photographs of the Plains and historical artefacts related to its history. Written originally in French and translated into English it sometimes reads a little stilted but presents interesting social perspectives on a fortress city transforming itself into a thriving port and its attendant battlefields into parkland with assistance of the great Frederick G. Todd.
