Southern Living Christmas 2022 is a Harry N. Abrams publication.

I have a ‘subscription’ to Southern Living magazine via the KU program. I love the magazine, which is a little bit addictive, I must say, so when I saw this Christmas edition book at the library I couldn’t resist.

Evidently, this is an annual Southern Living tradition, so this is the newest Christmas publication. I did not know what to expect really, but I thought the book would be a little chunkier than this with better photos and articles. (This is a digital copy- the hardcover version probably has bigger and brighter pictures.)

The book is nice enough- with the charm and elegance has the Southern Living readers are accustomed to, and includes some very interesting southern holiday recipes, with the cakes winning the day.

But, out of curiosity, I checked the book price at Amazon and thought that for what you get the price point was a bit steep. I’m sure the hardcover version is beautiful, but I didn't feel even remotely tempted to buy a copy. I think I got more out of the monthly periodical, than from this book.

If you find a copy at your library- it is a fun book to flip through and might give you a few decorating and holiday planning ideas, and there were a number of recipes.

Though I wasn't tempted to buy a copy of this book for myself, I thought it might make be a good gift idea-but on second thought, a subscription to the Southern Living monthly publication would probably be the better option -and give you more bang for your buck.

2.5 stars½

A nice little list, but much better appetizer books in collection.

The look is a bit dated, but the historical information included throughout the book is really interesting. I haven't come across many cookbooks with a wider variety of cake recipes than this one.

Even if my home will never look this perfect (my decor taste for the holidays might be termed "Chaotic Christmas"), I still enjoy seeing what other people come up with. My favorite was probably the "Blue Christmas." I'm looking forward to trying some of the recipes too!

Great addition to my cookbook collection. I immediately remembered the recipe , Down-Home Chicken and Onions, from childhood. The recipe was simple and really delicious!

Lemon sherbert cupcakes with buttercream frosting, lean lasagna, and homemade soft pretzels are just a few of my favorite recipes here. There are hundreds of recipes! Oh, and sour cream pound cake! Totally worth buying this one. The only thing I'd change is more color photos.

Even here in Los Angeles I sometimes see Southern Living magazine in the grocery store. And this book on gardening in containers is a beautiful book - and especially well-illustrated. It not only explains the how-to's, such as soil-less mixtures and why you need to change it out occasionally, but the fundamentals of designing a grouping of flowers based on textures or colors. And not just flowers but vegetables, too. But I was surprised as well to see a section devoted to houseplants, which has inspired me to add some more plants to my office at work. All in all, a very beautiful book that is especially welcome in the middle of a very wet winter. (I rec'd a copy of the book from Amazon Vine.)

When I lived in Southern California, I got excited about container gardening. This book is written by the Editors of Southern Living but it most of the plants featured are suitable for California, New Mexico and Arizona. I have started again here in Texas with a cactus, most of everything that I have planted here has been eaten by the wildlife! The zones for the South have a special section,it is good to know which plants will thrive in your area.

The book is richly illustrated, the colors of the plants are true and beautiful to look at. There are divisions into The Basics of Container Gardening, Entryways and Outdoors Spaces, Vertical Gardening, Indoor Containers and Edibles. It has an index in the back so that you can look up your plants. I am using this book mainly as a reference book for when I want more information or even inspiration. My favorite sub chapters are Tough Guys and Semi-Tough Guys. and Succulents. Those are the easiest to grow. Jade plants are so easy to grow that after two years we had them in plenty of different sizes. We hated to toss out the volunteer plants so we were were soon giving them the away.

I highly recommend this for beginning container gardeners and for those who want to try a different kind of plant in containers.

I received this finished Copy by making a selection from Amazon Vine books but that in no way influenced my thoughts or feelings in this review. I also posted this review only on sites meant for reading not for selling.

I've tried four recipes and they've been winners so far. Probably worth buying for the home collection. Has the recipes for rosemary shortbread and lemon basil cookies.

Now that school is back in session, it's great to find a cookbook that features quick and easy to prepare chicken dishes. Rotisserie Chicken Cookbook is just that book; it features step-by-step directions that are easy to follow and ingredients that are convenient and easy to find. This handy cookbook also includes a tutorial to help you get the most out of your store-bought rotisserie chicken and a handy checklist to help you save time and organize a well-stocked pantry.

Recipes for soup, salad, sandwich, and pasta dishes are plentiful like Fiesta Chicken Soup, Vegetable Patch Chicken Salad, Grilled Chicken and Cheese Sandwiches, and Chicken Marsala Tetrazzini. Additionally, besides chicken dishes, there is also a section featuring recipes for sides like Lemon Broccolini and Spring Potato Toss. The recipes all feature tips in one of several styles: 1.) "Grab and Go" ideas to supplement your meal, 2.) "Simple Swap" ideas for recipe substitutions, or 3.) "From the Kitchen" tips. To make choosing recipes even easier, each page features a heading like "make-ahead," "healthy & hearty," "kid-friendly," or "ready in 30 minutes." Furthermore, each recipe includes a full page full color photograph of the finished dish. Finally, a page of charts for metric equivalents and an index can be found at the end.

The Bottom Line: If you are looking for a cookbook featuring recipes that are delicious and super easy to make, then look no further. Southern Living’s Rotisserie Chicken Cookbook is for you. These recipes are sure to please your family and friends. Many of these dishes will appeal kids of all ages. This cookbook is great for cooks of all levels, but especially for beginning cooks or busy moms and dads. This cookbook is versatile and would be a great addition to personal cookbook collections as well. It’s a lot of fun to page through and look at the gorgeous food photography. The only thing missing was a chapter featuring chicken appetizers.

As stated in the title, these are classic dessert recipes, although I would not limit them to the south. Most are quick and easy with a few simple enough for children. Some are upgraded (or downgraded depending on how you feel about it) to make them more healthy. There is something for everyone in this book.

One downside is that most of these recipes have been printed before resulting in loss of 1/2 star. This is a small downside because the selection that has been gathered in one place is excellent.½
