Interesting read, nice read, from a historian's perspective. MacDonagh has done a great deal of primary and some secondary research, but there are times when he gives too much weight to what are biased opinions and one occasion where he does not allow for Austen's sometimes wicked sense of humor. One voice of many on Austen, but an enjoyable one.
