Drawing Dead is book three of Patrick Logan’s Chase Adams FBI series. I started this series during my local mystery book club. The storyline revolves around a woman in the FBI who has severe trauma after her little sister was kidnapped years before. She’s also a drug addict and can’t keep it separate from the job.

I like that these stories are easy reads. The storylines and settings are different in each book and Logan keeps it entertaining. For the most part I also like the characters in each of these books. Logan has kept a consistent partner for Chase within the FBI and his character starts to develop more in the third book. I like that this book toggled to his point of view of things.

I don’t care for Chase’s drug use / background in these books. I’m hoping after this book that Logan works to move Chase on from that. I feel like it’s a common theme among a lot of police crime series to have the main character ailed with addiction problems.

★★★★ Will read book 4, would recommend the series if you’re looking for some light reading.

The story line revolves around a woman named Chase who’s training to become an FBI agent so she can hopefully find her missing sister. Chase is a struggling addict in the middle of a divorce and custody battle. She likes difficult cases and tends to want cases that have women for victims.

I like that the storyline is fast paced and is entertaining. There were not any slow parts and the characters are relatively likeable. The ending have a good twist when it came to solving the case.

I did not like this book as much as I liked book 1. The addiction part was a little drawn out during the entirety of the book and it took focus away from the case of the murdered women. I think there could’ve been a lot more focus on the actual case versus Chase and her personal issues, the case lacked a lot of detail and felt rushed.

★★★ Not too much of a fan of this one. But because of my OCD issues, I won’t leave a series unread, I will continue on to book 3.

This was a good creepy tale! It is about a man that loses everything except his daughter and he is summoned by an aunt that he does not know to come to the Harlop house. Him and his daughter have to live with the ghostly residents of the house. From the first page the book grabs you and doesn't let you go till the end. Four stars for this one.

I'm not real thrilled about Beckett murdering people, but the book is a good stimulating read.

Detective Damien Drake is back off a six month leave period when he is called to the site of a murder, a drug addict has found the body of a man in an abandoned warehouse. The victim is one of New York's rich elite, but he is not the first victim, With lead detective, Chase Adams, Drake must find a motive.
An enjoyable and interesting serial killer mystery

The first half (roughly) of this book is great. Patrick Logan does a masterful job of building tension and creating a thoroughly creepy atmosphere. The rest, however, is a bit disappointing. After the precision and skill he starts with, the story somewhat devolves to cheap “gross-out” tactics that I don’t think are a true demonstration of his abilities. I’m not opposed to a scene that triggers the gag reflex, but I prefer mine to be a little more advanced than repeated involuntary urination and projectile vomiting. I haven’t decided yet if I’ll read more of the Insatiable series, or more Patrick Logan in general, but I think (I hope) his writing has evolved with each book after Skin, because he certainly has the potential to be one of the horror greats.

I love a good serial killer book, and Butterfly Kisses didn’t disappoint. It has enough creepy crawly elements to make your skin crawl, but never crossed into full gross-out territory, which I appreciate. I love Detective Damien Drake and while you could argue that he’s a stereotype, this particular stereotype exists for a reason, unfortunately, and he rings very true to me.

There are some typos in the book, and they are distracting in that they briefly pull you out of the story, but that doesn’t change the fact that this is a good story and Patrick Logan is a good writer. I have every intention of reading more in this series and others by Logan, and I would definitely recommend the book.

Read all my reviews on http://urlphantomhive.booklikes.com

My last book of 2016 was a freebie from Amazon which sounded like a Stephen King novel. It sounded like the perfect winter read, but in the end, left me warm nor cold.

An unhappy group of people come together to celebrate Christmas, when, unfortunately a blizzard makes sure they are all trapped. At the same time everyone seems to be called by a dark spirit who asks them to come, come, come.

Mwah, I don't know it for this novel. It was really not my style, so maybe other people will enjoy it a lot better than I did. There was a lot of repetition (after a while I was almost going insane myself if there would be 'come' one more time). The story doesn't provide anything new. I should probably have chosen a better book to end the year with.

On to 2017!

Butterfly Kisses: A Thrilling Serial Killer Novel - Detective Damien Drake, Book 1 Written by: Patrick Logan Narrated by: Michael Pauley I requested this audible book and the review is voluntary. This book is sooo good and I was very entranced in the mystery, the life of the detective, the interactions with the main characters, and the unfolding of the story. Great characters, wonderful plot, good suspense, and loved the narrator! This was a well rounded mystery, suspense, detective, thriller book. Thankful for the free book and and the wonderful read!

It wasn't a bad book and it had a nice twist at the end that I wasn't expecting. I am a sucker for a good ghost story...but I felt that this one just didn't quiet make the grade. You had to feel some empathy for Robert Watts...the main character. Poor guy was just caught up in events but on the other hand he was rather naive....so maybe some of them were of his own making. It would have been nice if Mr. Logan had given us a hint of an explanation for the haunting. I will try another one in this series. As I said I am a complete sucker for a good ghost story.

A story had the potential of an excellent plot. I have to say that I never saw coming the conclusion coming...but I should have. The character of Chase Adams is complex...and could be worked into a smart and observant character if the author will just make her more likable. She does seem to posse a gift that could turn out to be a blessing and a curse. She, of course faces the trials that it seems that women working in what had been a "man's world" faces and will need to develop grace and some style to deal with it. You really want to like her in spite of the obvious flaws. My library is getting the 2nd book in this series..."Shadow Suspect". I'm willing to give it a try to see if the character of Chase has improved any. Since I liked the paranormal aspect I will also try the first book in the "Haunted series...[Shallow Graves].½

My library is already getting the 2nd book in this series..."Shadow Suspect"...as well as the first book in the "Haunted series...[Shallow Graves]. Thank you Mr. Logan for an enjoyable ride with Chase Adams and I look forward to more.

Skin is a horror book that reminds me of Stephen King's Dreamcatcher.
The plot, monster, characters, and writing are all good. I found myself staying up too late at night reading this one. I just couldn't put it down.

The Lawrence family is just like every family in America: dysfunctional. But they are all likable in some way.
Tis is book one of the series and I will be reading the others. Also Patrick Logan has a wonderful style of writing. So I will probably read his other books outside of this series.

Sometimes you get lucky -- style or concept can save a book that's only just unremarkable. In this case, even better writing might not have been able to overcome a relentlessly unappealing protagonist, cumbersome plot advancement, and off-the-shelf scares that are ultimately unattached to a larger, probably scarier and more satisfying back story. Even given that this is probably just a place-setting for the series of books to come, it is a ghost story told on a sunny day at the beach, not by candlelight late at night.
