Courte biographie
Garry Kinnane was born in Melbourne, Australia, and after doing a variety of jobs that included stripping cane and playing the guitar, he left Australia in 1964 to live in Greece and England. He obtained degrees in English Literature from the universities of Warwick and Oxford. On his return to Australia in 1974, Kinnane taught first at Monash University and then at the Ballarat College of Advanced Education, where he is now a Lecturer in English. He has published stories and poems in English and Australian periodicals, and reviewed for the Melbourne Press. One of his particular loves is working in the theatre, as an actor and director. He lives in the country with his wife and children. (as at the time of, and as per 1986 dust-jacket on George Johnston's biography)
He went on to be a senior lecturer in the English Department of the University of Melbourne.
He retired from the Department of English at Melbourne University in 2004, when he moved to Clifton Springs. He has written two biographies of Australians, and is continuing to research and write, concentrating now on autobiography and fiction. (as per http://www.franktraynors.net.au/autho... Oct 2019)

Gritty autobiography that gives an interesting view of Melbourne during the 1940s and 50s. The author, through personal experience, derides the romantic notion that poor people during hard times pull together to make life easier and more enjoyable.

Interesting biography of one of the Meldrum school of painting in Australia. Colahan was initially successful in Australia, but emigrated to Europe where he became a prominent portrait painter and became less well known in Australia. A major event in his life was the well publicised death of Mollie Dean which caused a stir in the press.
