After generations of war, the surface of the Earth has been destroyed. The few remaining humans now live in cavernous underground cities, protected from both the scorching temperatures and the flesh eating "rotters", the only beings capable of existing on the surface. They survive under strict rules governing procreation and through the protection of the ever watchful gaurdsmen.
