Eloisa James is the author of two previous Regency historicals: "Potent Pleasures" & "Midnight Pleasures". She lives in New Jersey. (Publisher Provided) Eloisa James is the pen name for Mary Bly, born in 1964 in Minnesota. She is the daughter of published authors, Robert and Carol Bly. After afficher plus graduating from Harvard University, Eloisa James received an Masters in Philosophy from Oxford University, a Ph.D. from Yale University and eventually became a tenured associate professor of Shakespeare at Fordham University in New York. She also served as the head of the Creative Writing program there. Writing as Eloisa James, she is the bestselling romance author of the Desperate Duchesses series, and the Happily Ever After series of books. She also penned the non-fiction book called Paris in Love: A Memoir, about her family's life living in Paris, as Eloisa James. The book became a New York Times bestseller in 2015. While I heartily supported the ideas presented in this original plot, I simply didn’t care for the FMC in the scene where she met her grandfather; it felt artificial. Lost the will to continue.

I've always enjoyed Eloisa James' books, but this one is special -- both in the timeframe, which is earlier than Regency, and in the way it caused me to immediately want to learn more about the art of the time period. I loved the characters. I loved their banter and the mischievous children at the heart of their dilemma. I loved how the Viscount saw unkindness and tried to find ways to protect Torie from it. I love that Torie is clearly dyslexic, but is also depicted as an incredibly intelligent, talented and sparking character -- someone who is the heart of the book, as she should be. It's a fabulous read.

I lasted a paragraph or two and decided to move on. Can't say if this is good or bad and I didn't care to find out.

Eloisa James truly has a gift for storytelling.
Absolutely love Stella.
Right from the start, I just wanted to hug her and couldn't stand anyone who claimed to care for her or be her friend, including Silvester.
I did not read any of the previous books, so I came in with no preconceptions about the Yasmin & Giles story.
Honestly, I found myself annoyed for about 60% of this book with the amount of time spent dwelling on Yasmin. I understand the reasons behind it, and while it all wrapped up nicely, I admit I wanted to give Silvester a good shake multiple times.
