I love books. I love words. I love art. This book combines them all in a perfectly gorgeous way by exploring the newish way of alterating books. I have looked into this art form before but truly couldn't see myself taking an X-acto knife to written works. This book however show how a variety of artists have used a combination of recycling and love of books to create spectacular art. Maybe I could try working on an old phone book. I love maps too, so could possibly explore cutting those up...maybe.… (plus d'informations)

This book collects the art of 26 contemporary paper artists, compiled by Laura Heyenga. Natalie Avella gives a historical introduction to paper art (including mon, Scherenschnitte, and marques) and explores the various approaches of the collected artists. I was already familiar with some of the artists in this volume (Rob Ryan, Yulia Brodskaya, and Su Blackwell), but I appreciated the opportunity to revisit their work, as well as be introduced to the work of new artists.

Any one of these artists could merit their own dedicated volume, but together they brilliantly contrast the wide range of works encompassed under the umbrella term of "paper art" and demonstrate that even artists with similar techniques have very distinct styles.… (plus d'informations)

Book porn at its best. Loved the opening essays exploring the art form and its relationship to printed matter.
