- All Aboard for Dreamland! is Melanie's first book for children, but she has written hundreds of kids songs for Disney, Warner Bros, Rhino Records, Looney Tunes, Metaphor Records and McGraw Hill. Melanie is also a musician and is a four-time West Coast Bluegrass guitar champion. Melanie has played theatre music in regional theaters all over the country and was in the original Broadway cast of Quilters in 1984. Melanie was honored to work for Joni Mitchell for a number of years as her unofficial guitar tech and research assistant on her Hits and Misses project. Melanie made a documentary film about the life of jazz great Anita O'Day, the Jezebel of Jazz; wrote the screenplay for the biopic of her life, Nightbird; and co-wrote with Anita the jazz legend's final song, "No Man of My Own." Melanie co-owns and co-runs Metaphor Records with her husband, political satirist Roy Zimmerman with whom she co-writes frequently. Roy and Melanie have two glorious sons, Joe and Sam.
