This was an insanely quick read. And one I quite enjoyed even as it twisted ways I couldn't have guessed. So I leave you with this very wise quote

"Oh, you mortals, with your desperate prayers, with your terrible fates. You all want something from us--you all think there must be an easier way, a shortcut through the harder parts of life.

There is no shortcut. There never is anything we can give you. You must live the life you have; it's all any of us can do."

Usually Pooh Adore-ables are so cute I give them at least three-stars just based on the illustrations, but this one just didn't work for us. It is a coloring/activity book with pages that can be wiped clean and used again. Admittedly, the crayons that came with the book are 15 years old, but they mostly left faint marks that could barely be seen, especially on the really tedious left-side tracing pages where one is meant to color in a dotted outline of an object that is already colored in. (Also, all the crayons broke in two due to each one being two different colors welded together in the middle.) The right-side pages are meant for more free-form illustrations, but the book still offers icons of objects to copy to provide direction.

There's no real story, just a series of activities and drawing prompts. It might keep a kid entertained for a while, as long as they don't grow frustrated with how the crayons (don't) work.

(My Pooh Project: I love Winnie the Pooh, and so does my wife. Having a daughter gave us a chance to indoctrinate her into the cult by buying and reading her every Pooh book we came across. How many is that? I’m going to count them this year by reading and reviewing one every day and seeing which month I finally run out. Track my progress here:

A straightforward if dull book of opposites with adorable pictures and a pretty unnecessary and underutilized integrated slider. Move Pooh one way and Piglet goes in the opposite direction. You can align arrows with the opposite concepts, but the book goes in the same order as the scale so as you read you only get to move the slider a smidge with each page. Not much of a challenge and not much fun.

This did not pull me in, unfortunately. The writing is really pretty, so two stars for that.
