Lovely episode in one of my favorite cozy mystery series.

In the spring of 1936, Kitty and her best friend, Alice, are off to Bird Island to assess a new hotel. The owner, Sir Norman, wants to join the local hoteliers association and Kitty is meant to give her blessing. When they arrive, they find that the future bride to Sir Norman has invited a few guests as well. Shortly after the parties arrive, Sir Norman is found dead in his office. Nothing to be done except to call the police — Matt and the local inspectors arrive on the next boat.

This was fast and fun and though I had figured out the murder, there were some surprises along the way. I enjoy the interplay between Kitty, Alice, and Matt, who have become like old friends. I love the detail and descriptions of that time period and everything from the decor to the food service. I hope to see more about the personal lives of Matt and Kitty in future installments. The focus is typically on other characters and the crime being solved, and they seem like an old married couple rather than basically almost newlyweds. I look forward to the next installment.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for this e-book ARC to read and review. I recommend the entire series and definitely it’s one that should be started at the beginning and read in order.

February 1936. Kitty Bryant and Alice Miller representing the Torbay Hoteliers' Association are inspecting the Bird Hotel with a view to include it on their approved list. Accompanied by a troop of actors they make their way across to Bird Island. But later owner Sir Norman Whittier, commits suicide or has he. Kitty investigates as a storm has cut them off from the mainland.
An entertaining and well-written cozy historical mystery with its cast of varied and likeable characters. Another good addition to this enjoyable series.… (plus d'informations)

This is hardly an unbiased review as I really love the Missy Underhay series. This time Missy and her pal Alice are off to a new hotel on a nearby island which is set to open soon. Hardly a day goes past when their host becomes the body in the office. They are able to contact the police and Missy's PI husband Matt. And the sleuthing begins in earnest! Great read with a truly incredible twist!
I requested and received an uncorrected advance review ebook copy from Bookouture via NetGalley. Thank you!

It's the season to settle in for another delightful cozy mystery in this series.

I love traveling with the Bryants. This time, it's off to Scotland in 1935 to visit Finnglach Castle for Hogmanay celebrations. It seems that Lord Barlas, their host, has invited them for their investigative skills as he has been receiving some death threats. Since a snow storm leaves the holiday group isolated on the edge of a forest loch, Kitty and Matt deduce that one of the other guests has murder on their mind.

I have followed this series from the beginning and each time I open a new installment, it feels like meeting up with old friends again. I like Kitty and Matt as a couple and their investigative business though I also miss the activity and action at the Dolphin Hotel, along with the other characters there. This book focused mainly on Matt and Kitty and the events at the castle so some of the old, familiar faces were not along on the trip. I like the writing style and the way the author gives so many details about the time period. Love reading about the setting, the homes, the customs, the clothes, and the food! I always look forward to each new book.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for this e-book ARC to read, review, and recommend. If you are looking for a really delightful cozy mystery series set in the 1930s, then this is the one for you.
