Courte biographie
Pamela Clare writes historical romance and comtemporary romantic suspense books. She loves history, having studied Archaeology in college, and has traveled extensively, living for almost three years in Denmark, which feels like home to her. She attributes her love of historical romance with the years she spent visiting ruins and castles in Europe. She says: "I love nothing more than the moment my characters come alive in their own time period and begin interacting with the world they inhabit. Through them, I am able to travel to other times and places -- colonial America, 18th-century Ireland, the Viking age".

She  began her writing career as a columnist and investigative reporter and eventually became the first woman editor-in-chief of two different newspapers. Along the way, she and her team won numerous state and national honors, including the First Amendment Award and the National Journalism Award for Public Service. This year, she was honored by the Colorado Pro Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists with their Keeper of the Flame Lifetime Achievement Award for her work. As romance novelist  is a RITA finalist (Surrender, 2006) and a three-time Daphne du Maurier finalist (I-Team series).

A single mother with two teenage sons, Alec and Benjamin, she lives in Boulder, Colorado, next to the unbelievable beauty of the Rocky Mountains. She loves to hike and enjoys watching birds and wildlife with her two sons. Her other interests include drawing and painting, quilting, listening to music, horseback riding, world travel and reading.

Elspeth, or Bethie, Stewart is pregnant and alone in the Ohio frontier just as an Indian war (Pontiac's war) is breaking out. Nicholas Kenleigh comes across her and helps the widow as they both escape through the wilderness back to the safety of Fort Pitt. This is a beautiful story based on historical facts.
Nicholas was captured previous to this book by the Wyandot tribe and is deeply scarred both physically and emotionally by that experience. Bethie doesn't trust anyone but is forced to rely on Nicholas to help her return to safety. There's a lot of depth to both their characters that is gradually revealed in the book.
Pamela Clare writes some of the best historical fiction books, and this one may be my favorite.

I was delighted to find this novella-length epilogue to the MacKinnon's Rangers series. It takes place immediately after the events of book three and wraps up the stories for some of the side characters very nicely.
It's Christmas, but the three brothers find that the British have not paid their men for the last year and intend to remedy the situation. Meanwhile, their families reside at the farm, safe with all the new babies. Killy and Joseph stay with the women while the men ride to Albany. It's a very satisfying ending, though I would like a further book or two in the series dealing with Joseph and maybe even William Wentworth.… (plus d'informations)

Connor MacKinnon must rescue the niece of his nemesis, captured by Indians during the French and Indian wars. Lady Sarah Woodville has to choose between marrying Connor in an Indian ceremony or becoming a slave to her captor. However, she must forget that marriage once she's back in civilization and hide it from her uncle, the British commander William Wentworth. Of course, things don't go the way they wish.
This is a beautiful conclusion to this series about a historical period not often utilized in historical romances. Ms. Clare has done her research and peppers the story with interesting facts and events. Connor and Sarah are a wonderful couple and fit in well with the rest of the MacKinnons. There are some steamy scenes, but I read for the story, wanting to see what happened next.
I highly recommend this series. It's very well-written and I enjoyed it extremely.

Morgan MacKinnon is the second brother and now head of the Rangers, scouting for the British during the French and Indian wars. The French captured him, set him to be tortured, and then to be given to the Abenaki to be burned at the stake. Amalie is a young French woman under the guardianship of the fort's commander who nurses Morgan, healing him though she has doubts when she knows his ultimate fate.
The author has done such an excellent job in portraying the shifting loyalties and conflicts of this war. Malcolm is forced to fight for the British, his traditional enemy as a Highland Scot whose family supports the Stuarts. He is sympathetic to the French, traditional allies of the Catholic Scots but loyal to his brothers and fellow Rangers. Amalie is convent-bred but part French and part Abenaki so she is stuck between two different peoples. The battles and customs described are mostly historically accurate and add to the tension throughout the story. I'd like to see more books set in this time period, but this series is terrific.… (plus d'informations)
