Charrette provides an in-depth discussion of the activity of the Spirit in the life of Jesus Christ as it is presented in the Gospel of Matthew thereby showing that "the eschatological redemption [Matthew] describes in his Gospel is the direct result of the operation of the Spirit of God" (p.11, Introduction).

The author discusses the Spirit in Matthew in 3 sections:

Section 1: The Spirit's role in the person and ministry of Jesus Christ as Messiah according to OT prophetic expectations.

Section 2: The Spirit's role in Jesus redemptive work as Messiah in forgiving sins and judgment.

Section 3: The Spirit's work of continuity between Israel and the Church as Covenant communities.

Although a heavy subject to squeeze in 146 pages, he does so expertly, concisely, and clearly. You will be meditating on for a while on the insights he packs into these few pages and it will have you reading the Gospel of Matthew in a new way as you discern the work of the Spirit in each of its 28 chapters.

Another good thing about this book is that he not only provides a bibliography for further reading but has an index of Scripture verses cited in the book.
