A propos de l'auteur

Marion Dane Bauer was born in Oglesby, Illinois. She attended community college first, in her home town, and then went to the University of Missouri when she was a junior to study journalism. She quickly realized that journalism was not for her and changed her focus to the humanities and a degree afficher plus in English literature. She switched one last time to focus on teaching english, which she did when she graduated college. After her children were born, Bauer decided to try her hand at writing. She started out with a children's picture book, but discovered that youg adult novels were more to her taste. After making a career out of writing, Bauer became the first Faculty Chair at Vermont College for the only Master of Fine Arts in Writing program devoted exclusively to writing for children and young adults. Bauer is the author of more than forty books for young people. She has won many awards, including a Jane Addams Peace Association Award for her novel Rain of Fire and an American Library Association Newbery Honor Award for On My Honor and the Kerlan Award from the University of Minnesota for the body of her work. Her picture book My Mother is Mine was a New York Times bestseller. (Bowker Author Biography) afficher moins

This book does a great job explaining the Big Bang Theory. This book had really detailed pictures with little words, that easily describe for kids to understand. Each page of the book talks about the next step in the BBT belief. This book is great for primary students.

From Kirkus: "The stories of the births of the universe, the planet Earth, and a human child are told in this picture book . . . It’s a stunning achievement to present to readers the factual events that created the birth of the universe, the planet Earth, and life on Earth with such an expressive, powerful creativity of words paired with illustrations so evocative of the awe and magic of the cosmos. But then the story goes one brilliant step further and gives the birth of a child the same beginning, the same sense of magic, the same miracle."… (plus d'informations)

The titular cracking sound leads us out of bed on a winter night. Joined by the bear, the rabbit, the beaver, and the squirrel through the cold woods, we finally arrive at an enormous egg, which hatches before our eyes into the explosive arrival of spring. A somewhat whimsical narrative with an exciting, emotional climax.

Shelley's illustrations feel reiminiscent of Sibylle von Olfers, the early 20-century children's book author. The overall impression is magical and whimsical, but the small details are touchingly realistic. The landscape is very cool and icy until the vibrant explosion of spring, which feels like a visual relief.… (plus d'informations)

Saddest book I've ever read. Very hard to read as the mother of boys, but once I started, I had to finish. Very well written. Would be great book to open discussion on making good decisions. Heart breaking.
