Beautiful pastel illustrations are the highlight of this tribute to animal fathers and their offspring. Children will enjoy looking at a variety of male mammals, amphibians and birds as they feed, groom, house, protect and play with their offspring.

Some tuck you in, safe and warm, when the sun’s about to go.
And my daddy… haven’t you guessed? From all of the daddies, tall or small, mine is the best, the very best, the very best daddy of all.

Great for children aged two years and up.

Sweet and sentimental poem about what daddies do. I liked the design of this book with colored paper pages on the left to match the tones of each pastel illustration on the right. "Some daddies sing you awake" with a close up of a songbird perched along the side of a nest with baby bird in it.

This book was simple to read, and had a large font. This would be a good beginning book for early readers, as well as a great book to read while snuggling. The illustrations were beautiful, and I liked the overall message of this book, that fathers have many different roles, but that being a dad is what they do best. ( )

The Very Best Daddy of All is a children’s book about thirteen different animal daddies, and one human daddy. Each two-page spread shows a different animal daddy and single child, along with a description of what each daddy does for his children. Fish daddies build houses, wolf daddies comfort crying pups, and fox daddies take care of mamas so they can care for kits.

Admirably, all of the animals in this book are factual examples of good animal fathers and include lesser-known instances such as playful prairie dog fathers and fearless frog fathers. The soft illustrations have a sleepytime fell to them, and make this a good bedtime book. The Very Best Daddy ends with a human daddy and his son, since no one but a child’s own daddy is the very best of all. Review by Book Dads ( )
