This was considered at the time as one of Jane Austen's best historical novels. Betty is the daughter of John and Priscilla Alden and the first girl to be born among the Plymouth colony Pilgrims. It is not so much the story of Betty Alden as it is a documentary about the people of Plymouth and their struggles in the New World.
