You want the short version of what this book is like? Absolutely hilarious would be my summary. It contains every single cliché ever used in a werewolf story—and probably invented a few new ones while I wasn’t looking, or rather, unable to look because I was too busy laughing my head off or wiping tears of hilarity from my eyes. From the blurb to the clearly overly cheesy fluffy-romance like cover, this novel is the perfect werewolf story parody. And this is only the first volume in a series – sign me up for the rest of it!

I do think there are two "requirements" for you to truly enjoy this gem of a novel. One is a sense of humor and an ability to appreciate self-deprecating characters with a habit of criticizing themselves and everything that happens to them. And the second requirement is for you to have read at least ten of the “standard” werewolf stories out there (or watched a few B-movies about werewolves); without an understanding of what makes some of the paranormal/werewolf genre so predictable, you will miss half the jokes, probably more than half, actually. Oh, and it helps if you’re an author or an editor or friends with one or the other – there are plenty of funny observations about those groups as well.

Killian is an editor with a small publisher and the narrator of this story. He has plenty of reasons to dislike werewolves in real life, and he hates seeing manuscript after manuscript with essentially the same plot in fiction. Irate authors who complain about not getting a contract are not exactly on his list of favorite people, so you can imagine what happens when alpha wolf Brett walks in to complain about just one such rejection. Yep, the sparks fly. But there is more to the situation than either of them will believe or admit: amongst other things, Brett figures out Killian is his mate. What follows is a hilarious romp including every single character, plot twist, and event you have every seen in a werewolf romance book. All hilariously narrated and put into perspective by super-skeptical Killian who refuses to behave like the “typical” mate of the alpha and forges ahead to write his own rules. Well, he does his best, but much to my amusement, he doesn’t always succeed. The cliché is simply too overwhelming.

If you like sarcasm, books full of humor, and main characters who don’t take themselves too seriously, if you want to see two very unlikely partners go through an even more unlikely courtship and end up as the romantic clichés at least one of them never wanted to be, and if you’re looking for an entertaining read that will make you laugh out loud, then you will probably enjoy this novel as much as I did. I think it’s hilarious and cannot wait to see what the author comes up with for ‘Confessions of a Werewolf Editor 2’.
