“Pact number three: No matter what happens.. we will escape from Pine Bluff and live out our dreams in the wode world beyond.” Boyfriends or relationships may make you happy short term, but you never know when it will come to an end, friendship and family will last forever with unforgettable memories. The book is about a teenage girl named Claire trying to fit in and find the perfect guy throughout middle school and college. With that, many friendships break, and families are torn apart. The conflict of this novel is when Claire goes behind her best friend Megan's wishes with her boyfriend Luke, and Claire ends up losing all of her friends. She even gets bullied by the whole school.

This book gives you a real-life teenage experience. Claire is just a teenage girl who wants to fit in and have the guy of her dreams. She also struggled with trying to go to a college where her parents would accept her because her sister was the favorite “golden child”. This book takes place in a small town called Pine Bluff in Arkansas. She has 2 of her main best friends, Megan and Amberly. They all try to be those pretty popular girls with jock boyfriends. This book is emotionally filled with twists and turns. For example, Claire deals with family issues after her older sister leaves for college and her little brother dies. She feels the need to reconnect with the family and put all the pieces back together. She would cope with going to alcohol-related parties with her friends and getting all twisted up with any guy she finds cute. Along with that, trying to find the perfect guy was a major accomplishment and dealbreaker for her. Whenever she got into a relationship, things either didn't feel right to her or they would break up. She had to maintain a balance between her friends, family, and relationships, all along with going to school and trying to get into a good college.

The theme of the book is family and friendship because this book focuses on friendships over boys. Megan and Claire make many “pacts” throughout the book and their friendship such as not letting guys get in the way of their friendship since they broke their bond over Luke. Throughout the book, Claire is very involved with her friends and family almost every day. As mentioned, Claire also struggles with family issues and was the person to put their family back together when they were all struggling. She makes it very clear in the book that family and friends matter most to her.

I recommend this novel because it has real-life teenage experiences of relationships, school, and friends additionally with twists and turns. However, it also is mainly about teenage romance, so if you like a good hectic romance book of teenage girls trying to find the perfect guy throughout middle school until college, you will love this novel.

Just when I thought that Rachael Allen couldn't top Harley's first adventure, I was instantly proven wrong. Not only does the second installment of the trilogy continue to address the unresolved plot points from the first book, but also shoves at you more problems, new characters, and STELLAR CHARACTER GROWTH. (I'm almost mad at NetGalley for allowing me to read this early, because now I have the excruciating wait for the final book, LOL.)

Rachael brings Harley to life in a way very few writers have before - smart, funny, quirky, and shockingly relatable to people of all ages as they strive to figure out their life's purpose and who they're meant to be. Absolutely as exciting as Harley is herself, this is a book you won't want to miss!… (plus d'informations)

Narcissistic man-hater obsessed with her own anatomy forgot to put poetry in her poetry collection. Honestly, it could happen to anyone.

What an original and enjoyable book, I wasn’t sure what to expect but this surprised me.
Such a strange mixture of light and heavy, with moments of feeling very YA/teen and funny then the next moment flipping to serious and heartbreaking. A lot of focus on different issues, sexual assault, mental health, ptsd, panic attacks, abuse and violence.

I can relate to every insecurity, worry and problem she has, with absent/abusive parents, no support system, finding her own family and just all of it.
Of struggling to be able to afford things and being embarrassed for your classmates/friends to find out about what your problems and home life are like.
It fills my heart so much Harleens reaction to having supportive and loving friends for the first time in her life, being able to look for people in a crowd and actually having someone being there in your corner.

The forboding and tension in the present tense chapters made me need to keep reading so fast to get to the end and find out what happened.

At times this was a little simplistic with consistent quirky, somewhat hyper narrative, which did a good job capturing the personality we know and love as Harley. An interesting modern twist on a well known character, fun to figure out the similarities and twists.

Very feminist and inclusive with lots of LGBTQ characters, sapphic relationships, ADHD, different classes, black and Latina characters.

Lots of modern slang which does irritate me personally.
I would have loved this even more as a teen, but it was still great, I can’t wait for the sequel!

‘I am so sick of it. All of it. I'm sick of my dad and his it's-
your-fault-for-wearing-a-skirt-that's-too-shortBS. I'm sick
of people acting like I'm crazy. Anytime a woman gets mad
or sad or emotional, boom, let's put a big stamp on that feeling that says it isn't valid. That it's maybe even pathological.
You know as many as 70 percent of women got diagnosed
as hysterical by certain doctors back in the day? But what
if none of them were Crazy Bitches? What if they were
just tired? Tired of pretending everything was okay when it
wasn't, and living in a world that was designed to be against them, and being told to smile through the knife wounds.
Maybe pretending to be okay in the middle of a tornado is
the truly crazy thing.’

‘They're terrified. No one messes with him. No one says anything to him. No one approaches.
And I think, There is power in becoming a persona.
And I think, There is power in laughter.
And I think, There's something darkly gorgeous about him.’
