I have vague memories of this book I read when I was younger, but the more I try and pin down the details, the more they disappear. I think the cover had a girl sitting; she was a teen at a ranch for the summer; there was a boy (duh); at one point I think there's a confrontation with a mountain lion? And probably horse-back riding.
I'm making my head hurt trying to force the answer into the forefront of my brain!

Green Grass of Wyoming might have a mountain lion (there are mountain lions in Wyoming) and definitely has a girl. It's a place to start, anyway.
Spurs for Suzanna, by Betty Cavanna, has a girl on a ranch for the summer, but no mountain lion. If you look at lists that have these titles on them, you could turn up something.

No mention of a confrontation though one mention of a mountain lion. Girl sitting ... but published 1999. Ryden, Wild horse summer.
When is the earliest you recall reading it? 1988? 1985? Early 1980s?
Fenner, A summer of horses no lion.
Adler, Some other summer.
Doty, Summer pony.

>5 bookel: I was born in 1984, so I was probably reading it in the mid to late 1990s. I really wish I could focus in more on the details, but a lot of that time for me is vague, for other reasons. It would be a miracle if anyone was able to pull out the correct book with what little, possibly erroneous information I've provided, lol.

>9 Sophylina: That was a really educated guess based on what I can remember, but it doesn't look familiar. Thank you for the suggestion though!

>8 bookel: No, none of those unfortunately. Pretty sure the girl was more of a teenager too, closer to 16-18.

Just to eliminate the obvious - it's not The mountain lion I suppose?

>12 Sakerfalcon: Ha, no, that one came up repeatedly while I was attempting to Google the answer based on keywords.

Just thought I'd check! Best of luck finding the book.

Can probably eliminate The Mystery at Rustlers' Fort: A Troy Nesbit Mystery.
On the cover what is the girl sitting on?
