- The McNamara Center is home to the Ross P. Scherer Memorial Library.
Ross Scherer (1922-1999) was a Professor of Sociology at Loyola University Chicago from 1966-1991, a valued member of the Department of Sociology and a nationally prominent scholar fo American Religion.
The original collection for this library was donated by his wife, Doris Scherer, in his memory.
The efforts to catalog this library are ongoing and estimated completion dates lay in May of 2010. - A propos de moi
- The McNamara Center for the Social Study of Religion at Loyola University Chicago supports scholarly activities in the social study of religion. -- inquiry from any disciplinary perspective that examines religion as a social phenomenon.
The Center was established in 1998 by Loyola University Chicago's Department of Sociology with support from the College of Arts and Sciences and the Graduate School, to serve as an institutional embodiment of Loyola's long-standing national reputation in the social study of religion. It is named for Bob McNamara, former Professor of Sociology and Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Loyola. McNamara was a key figure in the founding of the Association for the Sociology of Religion, one of the premier professional associations in the field. - Lieu (géographique)
