Irish Eyes by Hope C. Tarr, the first book in The American Songbook series, is a mesmerizing historical saga that is intense, heartfelt, thought-provoking, and I highly recommend this spectacular book!

Tarr an amazing storyteller takes her readers and complex characters through some of the most intense life changing times in our history, spanning from 1898 to early 1920. Well researched actual events, vividly incorporated into this fictional story, shows off Tarr’s exceptional writing skills, bringing this story to life which helped me to totally connect with all of the characters and plot lines in this story, causing an emotional roller coaster from tears to elation.

Thank you to Lume Books and NetGalley for an ARC copy of Irish Eyes to read and review. This was one of the best books I read in 2023! All opinions in this review are my own and I was not obligated to write a favorable review.

Rose’s brother has been killed in the Spanish-American war. When his best friend, Adam, shows up at her family’s saloon in Ireland, sparks fly immediately. Sadly, Adam is called home because his father is ill and Rose and Adam lose touch. Rose takes off in search of Adam after she discovers she is pregnant. Things do not go as she had hoped and Rose finds herself on her own!

This is really close to a 5 star read for me. The only reason I decided on 4 stars is basically originality. It is the same story I have read before…with a few different twists. The twists are what make this book so well done! Oh! and the characters! I love Rose! And I even loved her husband Joe, even if he is a stubborn butt!

The love triangle between Rose, Joe and Adam, as I have said before, is not unique. But the drama that occurs between the characters and the way their lives shift and change really keep the reader turning the pages.

Need a wonderful historical fiction love story…THIS IS IT ! Grab your copy today!

I received this novel from the author for a honest review

There were so many historical events in this novel, I just loved it! An unexpected guest is far from home when he ventures into Rose's family pub and has all of the letters she had written her brother when he was off fighting in the Spanish-American War. This man being the only connection left to her brother, it doesn't take Rose long to fall for him. A hasty promise is made when Adam tells her he has to head back to America for his father. After not hearing anything for weeks and now having a secret of her own Rose heads to American to chase the man and opportunities they had dreamed up. A sore reality meets Rose and she knows she is now on her own to make her own way in a new unknown land. Bound to make a life for herself, Rose finds work and a way to survive when another heartbreak is forced upon her, Rose feels she is once again having to start life all over. Life usually has other plans and Rose is learning that as she recovers and gets back on her feet to start again, this time though with some new friends and romantic interest. Marriage, a house, children and a shop is all that Rose could have dreamed of but there is still a piece of her past that won't let go and has history repeats itself so may just her chance of the past that always seemed a dream. I am really looking forward to more in this Songbook series. Thank you to Suzy Approved Book Tours for the invite and to the author for the complementary novel. I look forward to more! This review is of my own opinion and accord.… (plus d'informations)
