This series just doesn’t miss! The artist Holmes does a wonderful job differentiating the dragons and showing their expressions.

We see up close the blessing and curse being able to read minds actively looks likes. We also get an ominous vision (really it’s multiverse stuff – so many bad possible endings) and a whodunit all in one. I’m always so impressed by the narrative voice.

Similar to Lego animated series, there’s a tendency to want to underestimate the series as some ‘silly dragon’ book. But no, the level of intrigue, emotional beats, and plot twists pleasantly surprises you every time.… (plus d'informations)

My 8-year-old gives this a solid 5-star rating. My inner child is leaning more towards a 4. - So a solid 4.5 stars.

It was an enjoyable read, no doubt. However, I didn't find it quite as gripping as my 8yr old did. Plus, it felt like it dragged on a bit before diving into the truly adventurous parts.

Although there aren't many images or graphics throughout the book, I did appreciate the visuals and backgrounds of the different types of dragons at the beginning. They were easy to follow and added to the overall experience.

Overall, I'd say it's perfect for beginner readers looking to dive into the world of reading!

While far from a perfect introduction to a long book series I will say this graphic novel helps you figure out characters. There's a lack of names being consistent like for example I keep seeing certain names thrown at certain characters but that's not their name. It's kind of confusing but I guess that's their title or something instead of their name and their name is something else.

The graphic novel is a solid story with three chapters in it and a epilogue that immediately makes the last chapter feel a bit moot. It has a parent-child issue partially resolved and then instead of resolving it later it just has the parent murdered off because I guess that's a plot point?

I don't know if I really cared for every character in this graphic novel even though it was building certain ones up. It feels like the one that can do camouflage and our mud Wing are the main focal characters. I don't really like prophecy stories but I can kind of ease into this one because I've read so many of them. But it feels like the prophecy is just there to cause drama and the stakes are a little bit confusing the grass from the graphic novel alone.

Going in blind and using this graphic novel to understand the series you do get misplaced and lost and confused at times but luckily it's probably one of the most coherent graphic novel adaptations of a book series I've read. Or at least this first one is I can't say anything about the next ones until I've read them.

I really like certain designs and other designs I just did not care about. Some dragons look cool and some dragons blend in with each other to the point that you can't identify them unless they have some kind of attire upon them.

4 stars.
