I picked this up at an antique store. The published date is 1960. There appears to be some real winners in here, although most of the recipes seem to be heavy and will probably be autumn/winter recipes. I've had fun looking up some of the Mennonite terms: schmecks, clops, fafsa, Schnetke, just to name a few. Discovered they don't really eat things on a bun, like "we" do; such as burgers, sausage, etc. One bun is questionable but a 2-piece bun in sacrilegious! Great fun book! I understand there is an updated version (2010), but I have no need for an update! 369 pages 4 stars Rated only 4/5 because there are no pics and also at least 50% of the recipes are things I won't be trying--but that is personal preference.… (plus d'informations)

This is a family favourite cookbook which we still use up to the present day (2010 as I write this).
It is full of Mennonite, Pennsylvania Dutch (i.e Deutsch/German) and Canadian country cooking recipes. It is from another era so in the present day we find ourselves substituting a lot in recipes that call for generous amounts of butter, cream and sugar. This doesn't harm the basic failsafe recipes which are all quite simple to make.
Highly recommended if this sort of cooking appeals to you.… (plus d'informations)
