Francine Pascal grew up in New York City and attended New York University. She is the author of the Sweet Valley High series, featuring twins Jessica and Elizabeth Wakefield. She had originally planned the idea for a daytime soap for teens, but a close friend talked her into making the idea into a afficher plus book series instead. Pascal has also written "Hangin' Out with Cici, which became an ABC After School Special called "My Mother Was Never a Kid", "The Hand-Me-Down Kid," also made into an ABC After School Special, "My First Love and Other Disasters," and "Love and Betrayal & Hold the Mayo." - Creator of mass-market young adult series Sweet Valley and Fearless. Author of several other children's novels, some of which became ABC Afterschool Specials, as well as a few adult novels. With husband John Pascal and brother Michael Stewart, wrote book for Broadway musical "George M!" Worked with John Pascal as screenwriter for ABC soap "The Young Marrieds," and author of novel "The Strange Case of Patty Hearst." Had three daughters, Jamie, Laurie, and Susan, from first marriage. Oldest daughter Jamie died in 2008 of liver disease. Never remarried after John Pascal died of cancer in 1981. Divides her time between homes in New York and the south of France.

No Girls Allowed (Sweet Valley Kids) par Francine Pascal
Sweet Valley loves a book about sexism every now and then, and I am down for that (despite struggling a LOT with any kind of injustice, fictional or otherwise) but I do think it's unfortunate that this one revisits the soccer-related sexism from SVK 15 instead of finding another situation. Todd is a real prat here and I did find everyone's surprise at that a little hard to believe, given that he's OFTEN a prat, but oh well ;)
This was a nice story about cheating. I particularly liked Jess's complicated feelings about it—not as much guilty for what she did as upset that the other kids were unfairly accusing Liz of having cheated too. Both twins felt very in character and it was more nuanced than a lot of the SVK books.
This is one where it just doesn't work to read it as an adult, because everything is so very unbelievable. The idea that they'd just lock up a department store with two small children lost inside it and that emergency operators would dismiss calls as hoaxes the moment they heard a child's voice at the other end of the line was just too ridiculous for this adult reader—not to mention dangerous, as it's basically telling kids not to bother calling 911 if they need help. The thief trapping stuff is basically Home Alone set in a department store, and I can imagine young readers enjoying this part.… (plus d'informations)
One has to suspend disbelief a little when it comes to the film star's interactions with the SV kids, but it's the kind of thing children dream about happening, so works as a wholesome wish fulfilment story.
