Changing her future means letting go of her past. Karina heads to a weekend seminar and discovers the speaker is the person she needs to move on from. But she soon realizes bigger issues are facing her...
Brian has moved on, at least he'd believed he had… until he sees Karina in his audience…and realizes he's been lying to himself.
Passion pulls them together, love binds them together, but a revengeful enemy determines to keep the two apart…and destroy them both

After a one night stand at the end of college, that ended badly when Brian walked out the following morning, Karina has spent the next 10 years hurting.

Since panicking and leaving, Brian has become a successful life coach and has got married, had a child, and got divorced. Karina attends one of his weekend sessions, to put the past behind her. Little does either of them realise, the chemistry is still strong and hasnt diminished like Karina had hoped.

Their relationship takes a step forward, but only for it to be jeopardised by Ian, a man from their combined past, who blames Brian for his current issues, and who extends his harassment to include Karina. The rest of the book covers Karina and Brian working out their relationship, whilst being threatened by Ian. The last third of the book does pick up when the harassment comes to ahead, and both Brian and Karina are left physically and emotionally damaged.

There are several sex scenes, which are "sexy" enough - whilst not the most explicit I've read, are a little raunchier than some people would like to read, so best to avoid if you dont like this kind of scene. They dont get into bed with each other immediately, even when Karina is living in Brian's house and it's so clear to everyone around them that they are so in lust with each other. Karina is still hurting from him walking out on her 10 years previously, and Brian is still confused about his feelings and a little scared of commitment to Karina specifically (he also feels guilty for having walked out).

This book does not have the feeling of a Mills and Boon romance novel (of which I have read many, and intend to read more) and does not follow the rigid M&B guidelines. It therefore flows differently to a M&B and I'm not sure whether this is a good or a bad thing.

For a book that is so character driven, some of the supporting characters are not fleshed out as much as they could be - for example, Mark, as Brian's best friend, is there at the important times, but is noticeably off scene for much of the book. There is a brief reference to his brother having an accident but it's not mentioned again, and Mark always seems to be available (and well presented) whenever Brian needs him. There is no further reference to the brother at all. Brian seems to have a reasonable relationship with Marly, his ex wife, to the point that he rings her up at difficult emotional points and she willingly gives reasonable advice. There is no reference to how they have managed to survive their divorce so well (and why they split up in the first place), and there is little to no discussion about what Karina feels about the spectre of the ex-wife - though she seems to get on fine with the daughter.

So I'm in two minds about this book - it was an enjoyable and easy book to read and a good premise decently executed. However in writing this review, I've realised there are as many things "not quite there" as there are decent points, therefore cant give it as high a star count as I would otherwise. (this is actually a 3.5 star review)

However, I am already looking at other books by this author in order to read her other works.

A twisted game of Hide'n Go Seek forces an unlikely alliance between a no-nonsense FBI agent and a search-and-rescue worker.

Celebrated search-and-rescue worker Kali Jordon has hidden her psychic abilities by crediting her canine partner Shiloh with the recoveries. But Kali knows the grim truth--The Sight that she inherited from her grandmother allows her to trace violent energy unerringly to victims of murder. No one knows her secret until a twisted killer challenges her to a deadly game of Hide'n Go Seek that threatens those closest to her.

Now she must rely on FBI Special Agent Grant Summers, a man who has sworn to protect her, even as he suspects there's more to Kali and Shiloh than meets the eye. As the killer draws a tighter and tighter circle around Kali, she and Grant find there's no place to hide.
Are her visions the key to finding the latest victim alive or will this twisted game of Hide'n Go Seek cost her...everything?

I received this from the author in ebook format via www.goodreads.com in exchange for a review.

Kali is a well known member of an international Search and Rescue team along with her dog Shiloh. A long term relationship has finished before the book starts, and that, combined with recent losses of survivors in Mexico, has resulted in Kali shutting down emotionally, even to her closest friends.

Following the devastation of Mexico, one of the Search and Rescue volunteers decides that the rescuers are working against God’s will and that he must do God’s will in sending them home. Since Kali seems to have such a great reputation in rescue, with or without her dog, the killer starts challenging her with taunts and threats to prove her to be “a witch” (with unnatural powers). The threats against Kali result in the FBI being pulled in to investigate. Here she meets up with Grant Summers, with which she seems to have an instant connection, though she doesn’t understand it and doesn’t want to open up to the possibilities. Through Grant she also meets Stephan, a powerful psychic who helps her control and manage her growing powers

As people around her get threatened, and people start dying, Kali has to deal with the threat from an unknown party, who seems to know all about her, whilst coming to terms with her psychic powers growing.

This is the second in the Psychic Visions series and whilst there is the occasional reference back to events from the previous book – Stephan seems to be the recurring character – this book can stand happily on it’s own and is a decent start off point for new readers.

The FBI and police teams didn’t come off well in this book, as the protective guards around Kali’s house didn’t make much of an appearance, and kept losing the killer, even when he was within feet of Kali in the darkness.

That being said, tension is kept up well, the psychic talents are downplayed in terms of the unusualness - Kali is psychic, so let's get on with it!

I’ve recently read Unbound by the same author and wanted to read another by her to get a better sense of her writing. I found this book to be a stronger story, both in plot points and writing style, so will definitely be on the lookout for more stories by Ms Mayer.

My Thoughts:
Wonderful start to a new-to-me series!

This is my first Dale Mayer read and I am glad that I stumbled into her! Slow start but picks up about three-quarters through. It is interesting to follow the journey of a psychic who didn't want to be one...

What's even better?!? There are a few more books in the series!!

Being book 1, the book is about introducing the readers into this world. It's not that the author did not spin a good tale, because she did. But the coming-of-age theme is salient in this book.

This is also my first Kristi Alsip listen and I like the way she reads. Fast becoming a fan! However, I have a whinge with the audiobook format... Chapter 2 comes after chapter 3... WTF! And the kindle ebook and audible audiobook is not whispersync! Darn it!! So, no! I am not happy with the audiobook!

First book of a new mystery (with a mystic touch). Tough, determined, new female detective finds her case becoming more involved and a man comes to her about dreams/visions he’s having. Suddenly the case is connecting to cold cases, missing children, and black internet groups. Very good. There are some editing errors that need to be addressed.

FROM BARNES & NOBLE: Simon Says... Hide, a brand new thriller series from USA Today best-selling author Dale Mayer.

Newly promoted detective Kate Morgan stands up for the victims in the world, never backing down or giving up. From a family of victims, Kate will not tolerate those who take advantage of others. The worst ones prey on the hopes of desperate people to line their own pockets.

And when Kate finds a connection between more than a half-dozen cold cases to a recent case--where a child's life is in jeopardy--she'll make a deal with the devil himself to protect the child.

Having the gift of Sight, Simon St. Laurant knows that once he uses it, he can never walk away. But when nightmares of his own past are triggered, Simon can't stand back. Determined to help, Simon vows to save these children--even if it means dealing with the cranky and critical Detective Kate Morgan.

The great cover couldn't quite make up for the fact that the heroine was a bit of a self satisfied prig.

I love that this series is sexy without being explicit and interesting and has focus on the parts of the story that are not just the relationship.

This one seemed a little more rushed than some of the others. But overall a good story arc and likeable characters, though there is minimal prior development.

1.75 Stars

The 1st book is the best.
The 2nd a bad repeat of the 1st.
Childishly written scenes.
No real steam At All.
Unless you consider a kiss and holding hands steamy.

The writing is like the fantasy of a teenager.
Very UnRealistic.
Inept writing.

You can check out my kindle highlights and notes for a better idea of just how badly this is written.
Here is a scene to give you an idea;

'With her eyes closed, she watched his feet recede...'

I don't know about you, but when my eyes are closed I can't watch something. This is just an example of what happens constantly in these stories.

Seem I have hit the proverbial jackpot this month with "new to me authors". I will be searching out more books by Dale Mayer. I didn't like Kate Morgan to begin with, but I had to admire her devotion to the victims and how determined she was to solve the many cold cases that were piling up, especially those that involved children. It's personal to her. Her younger brother was abducted while she was watching him. She was 7. While I have to wonder who in their right mind leaves a 7-year-old to watch a younger child, the events that followed has given her the drive that fuels her chosen career. She is dedicated and committed to finding victims, which of course would include her brother. Then we have Simon St. Laurant... I loved him from the start. Simon has a past of his own that he works hard to hide but his fellow cops often find convenient and useful. Simon has the sometimes unwelcome, gift of sight, so he tells Kate that he is having visions and feels compelled to give her information he hopes is helpful. The interaction between Kate and Simon was unusual, yet it worked. I loved the banter between them, and I can't wait to see where this partnership takes them. It was not what I expected at all...but perfect for the beginning of what has all the makings of an addictive series.

Snap, Crackle...
Dale Mayer
I picked this up from the library because I heard the series was very good. I was intrigued by the concept because I love psychic stories. But I didn't find it that thrilling. It was interesting and enjoyable. Average. I have a couple of this author's books so I will definitely try more books. I did enjoy this book and maybe this is her "bad" book! Lol!

i finished it but barely.

it was strange it seem to be very little dialogue between the characters and then it just ended. at first i thought the 2nd book in the story would finish it but that book is about two different characters.

will not be finishing the series.

Good characters and a thoroughly nasty villain. Although the hero makes his first appearance on a bike, and the villain and his sidekicks are members of a biker gang, the biker aspect is practically nonexistent. A quick, enjpyable read with not too many proofing errors.

Great heroes and great dogs. Lots of compilations. Great read.

FROM AMAZON: Agreeing to travel home to Maine to hunt down Katch, a K9 dog the system had lost track of, wasn’t an easy decision for Zane. It meant facing his drunk of a father, his cold older brother and, worst of all, Holly, his kid brother’s widow, who used to be his girlfriend.

Finding Katch looked to be the easiest part of this dysfunctional homecoming. Only, he wasn’t the only one hunting Katch.

Holly has been through a whirlwind of emotions in the last few years. But the good thing in all of this was the hope that Zane would finally come home again. They had a history to clear up and a future to forge...she hoped.

A call for help brings the injured shepherd to Holly’s doorstep, plus a hunter looking to finish what he started. All thoughts of a future with Zane are threatened now and forever, as the hunter decides two-legged prey are just as good as four-legged ones.

Plenty of twists and turns and mysterious threats, but let down by poor proofreading that resulted in quite a few sentences that simply did not make sense.

Added to that, the behaviour of the RCMP was frankly not believable, unless Canadian Police are way, way more relaxed about civilians meddling with investigations than other nationalities.½
