I'm not usually keen on erotica as a genre, or short-story romances. Stories like that seem to me to have too much too soon going on. So when I received an ARC of this to review, I figured I would be the skeptic in the audience.

Not so, but far otherwise.

These stories are hot, but not artificially so (more unexpected than not, in some cases). The characters are relatable and the stories engaging. I'll be following several of these authors going forward.

"If Wishes Were Horses" was just the book I needed right now.

When Brianna learns she has inherited a half share in a racing stud in Ireland, she feels the need to travel there from her home in Melbourne, Australia, though the ticket eats most of her savings.

Declan grew up on Leary Estates. Brianna's uncle was like the father he never had. He has been managing the stud for years and has inherited the other half-share.

When Brianna and Declan meet they are immediately attracted to each other, but neither is looking for romance as they have the future of the stud on their minds. And of course, in the classic tradition, that is precisely when romance finds them.

Entirely predictable in the way of all the great romcoms, following this couple as they come to terms with their feelings and work out how to tell each other was a joy, and I think I wore a smile through most of this book - if not on my face then in my heart.

Caitlyn Lynch gives us two appealing characters to care about, a gorgeous setting in the Irish countryside and just enough steamy scenes... actually, when they're this hot there are never enough. But what is here is excellent. Very recommended.

Heather's new neighbour Mike is just back from a tour of duty overseas when she literally runs into him in the hall. Awkward introductions ensue and she returns to her unit fantasising about her hot new acquaintance. Meet cute accomplished, Heather encounters Mike again late that night - one thing leads to another and pretty soon she's living out her fantasies from earlier that day, and then some.

Author Caitlyn Lynch hits most of my sweet spots in this delicious smutfest. I liked Heather and Mike, even the latter's propensity for corny pick-up lines was fine with me - and the sex we're all here for (well, so were they!) is off-the-charts hot.

My only slight reservation is concern for Heather's piano - knowing how owners of said instruments can obsess over water-rings from drinking glasses I hate to think what effect other fluids might have on a piano's finish. :‑O

Typically for a short story collection, there were good and less- good. Only a couple I really just didn't care for at all, a large group of OK, and a few that were particularly well done. Some of them would have been better if they hadn't been trying to fit everything into one short. Sometimes you have to focus in on one part of the romantic journey, not the whole. The stories that focused in on a narrow section succeeded better than those that tried to cram the whole thing in.
