Ever since I recently read Michael Pollan's In Defense of Food, I have been trying to diversify my diet, including introducing more whole grains. This new cookbook is the perfect motivator. Filled with beautiful photographs on matte pages, Honey & Oats offers 75 friendly recipes for home bakers trying to incorporate healthy alternatives into their sweet and savory baked goods.

Best of all, unlike the carob and tofu concoctions my mother foisted on us in the 1970s under the banner of "Health Food," the treats in Honey & Oats actually taste good!

I may change the rating if I borrow it again and actually try some of the recipes. Right now I'm trying to acknowledge that I have too many books lurking around the house that are in fact for glancing through and not enough time.

And it's not really me. I'm not vegan for starters. Several of the recipes that I like the look of have ingredients I have never seen in shops (I've jotted a few of them down for research purposes), many of them look lovely but suffer from my perenial problem, if I make that many, I'll have to eat them, and I'm trying desperately to lose weight.
