Carla Kaplan, Davis Distinguished Professor of American Literature at Northeastern University, is the author of Zora Neale Hurston: A Life in Letters, among other books. A recipient of a Guggenheim fellowship, Kaplan has been a fellow at the Cullman Center for Scholars and Writers, the Schomburg afficher plus Center for Research in Black Culture, the W.E.B.
