I was anxiously awaiting the release of Rayna’s new book and wasn’t disappointed. Like her previous book, Create Your Own Hand-Printed Cloth, this is a process book. It doesn’t contain patterns, template or “projects”. What it does contain is inspiration and permission to play and create without fear of the quilt police – no ¼” seam allowances required, no matching of seams. The book contains clear, detailed photographs and Rayna’s writing style is easy to read and understand. Her emphasis is on working intuitively, trusting our instincts and erasing the word “mistake” from our vocabulary. I love Rayna’s disregard for color wheel terms like analogous, complementary and split complementary; instead she suggests going with what looks and feels right. Throughout the book, Rayna’s emphasis is on helping us create “original” quilts. The icing on the cake is that this book is a great scrap/stash buster with lots of ways to use up all those odds and ends we have been collecting for years.… (plus d'informations)

"Create Your Own Free-Form Quilts" by Rayna Gillman is a great book for budding art quilters, beginning quilters, and quilters who just don't follow the 'Quilting Rules'! Gillman gives you the freedom of using batiks, hand-dyed fabrics, commercial fabrics, hand-printed fabrics and leftover blocks and UFO's (unfinished objects), all in one quilt.. This is definitely a book for green quilters. It's also a book for angry quilters, because you get to sew and then, cut it up, and if you want, you can cut it up some more! Create Your Free-Form Quilts gives you ideas of what to do when you have finished cutting, the use of colors, and putting it altogether. Don't worry if you can't find a pattern to use. Make one yourself! And you probably won't have to buy any new fabric! (Oh, that's not so good, is it?) But, you will save $$$. The quilt ideas in this book are fun and just think, the quilts you make will be completely yours!

Create Your Own Hand-Printed Cloth by Rayna Gillman will have you putting your own 'stamp' on fabric as soon as you read it. This book offers tips and information about fabric painting and dyeing, screenprinting, stenciling, rubbings, and more. I was especially interested in the chapter about soy wax batiking. This is something I have been getting interested in for a long time, given the facts about the safety of this was. You can also remove the wax without having to take the fabric to a dry cleaner.
I have just begun trying to make my own fabrics, and this book will be a great assistance to anything I try to produce. Gillman writes the book for people who don't have the more expensive tools, that experts try to recommend for beginners. I really appreciate that fact and I think other readers will too. This is a wonderful book trying out new techniques without having to spend a lot of money in the process.
