I chose to read this book because I like the brooding books, sometimes. This is definitely one of those books.

So Bails has finally found the love of her life, just to lose him right before their wedding. Literally, right before their wedding. Heartbreaking, right? Well, yeah it definitely was. Now she has to find her way back to the land of the living... The twist? Haha... I can't tell you that.

So, characters and storyline. I loved the storyline. It is the perfect recipe for a great book. The only thing is, it needs supporting characters to drive it home. I am about to be honest, and I am sure many will disagree. This is just my opinion. I didn't like Bails. Not one bit. She was TOO broody for me. Too whiney. Too self-centered for this story. I truly couldn't stand her! As for all of the other characters? I loved them! They couldn't fit better. Her best friend, perfect. Major, perfect. Major's mom, perfect. Major's best friend, perfect.

Other than my disdain for Bails, this really is a great book. A little too broody at some points. I just wanted to slap Bails in the face and tell her to get over herself. Other than that, I laughed, I got teary-eyed. This is definitely a book to read if you want a little bit of every emotion. And you will get many different emotions in this one!

SNOWFLAKES & FIRE ESCAPES by J.M. Darhower REVIEW

Even though Snowflakes & Fire Escapes is part of an anthology and not a full-length novel, it is a complete story. Nothing feels rushed or left out, definitely a top level read.

I fell for Cody and Gracie right away. The kind of love they have is pure and true and precious and rare. They have been best friends since birth. That friendship slowly turned to more and continued to grow. With both having been born into crime families, it doesn't take long for the real word to burst their bubble.
"It's easy to say, because it's true. You can break people apart, but you can't rob them of what's them. You'll never be without me, because I'll always be part of you, just like you're in me, Gracie. You're my soul, love."

I can't go into exactly why because it would give away too much of a spoiler, but this storyline is a different side from the usual organized crime novel. The point of view of mob kids growing up isn't a new thing, but the direction the plot takes is not the normal from stories I've read.

Snowflakes & Fire Escapes is an endearing read that I definitely recommend. I give it

This book was not what I expected. I thought it was going to be more superficial and smutty fantasy, but I found it to be so realistic and true to life. A lot of the contemporary romance books that I read are full of things that most people will never experience. This book will call to the hearts of so many who may feel they are in a similar situation.

Aria and Flynn got together in high school. When Aria became pregnant, their entire future changed. Instead of having the time to find themselves and sow their wild oats, they become newlyweds and then parents when they should have been graduating high school and attending college. Although they did a good job of putting a home together and are mature in many areas, they haven't grown as a couple. Aria is full of insecurities which turn her in to something she doesn't want to be. This causes chain reactions that lead to Flynn making unwise decisions. Everything just continues to escalate and spiral. After seven years of marriage, it's uncertain if there is anything to salvage.

This couple went round after round with each other. Nothing was romanticized. I like how the author kept it real. I could totally understand how everything progressed, and I felt the struggle. There are many heightened emotions and some sexy scenes, but what I liked best is how lifelike it is. Sometimes I can't quite understand circumstances in something I read, but comprehension came easily with this storyline.
