This was the last book I needed to complete the Darnley Mills series. It took about ten years of constant ebay monitoring to find one at a price that was reasonable. I first stumbled on Philip Turner's writing under one of his pseudonyms, Steven Chance, with Septimus and the Minister Ghost, which I enjoyed immensely as a youngster. The internet revealed the other books in the late 90's, and I have been on the hunt ever since. Well worth the effort, the series is enjoyable.

This was a favourite as a child, and I recently picked up a copy at a secondhand shop and found I enjoyed it just as much. I love old churches and ghost stories, so this is perfect. The story is well-plotted and well-paced, there is a mountain of interesting detail about the operations and running of a cathedral, and the characters are likeable and endearing. Highly recommended for teenagers and adults alike.
