New Haven police reporter Annie Seymour has a talent for running into trouble. So it should come as no surprise when her co-worker's bachelorette party at a local club quickly turns into a crime scene. What is surprising is that the dead club manager in the parking lot happens to be Annie's ex-husband...and the bullet shells around his body match the gun she has in her car....… (plus d'informations)

Annie Seymour stands over her dead ex-husband. She becomes the prime suspect. As she finds out what he was into and what he was doing when he turns up in her town after 15 years apart, she knows she did the right thing all those years ago.

I liked Annie. She is a strong woman. She asks questions, knowing when to push and when to back off. I wonder about her mother. Whose side was she on? I liked her relationships with Tom and Vinny. I will have to read the earlier books to see how it settled into what it is now.

The story was good. The mystery was well done until the reveal of who the murderer is. That came totally out of left field. The person was not on my list of suspects (because we all know the heroine is never guilty.) The warnings that came through the story for Annie to watch her back don't make sense when the end is revealed. I figured out much of who was involved and why but the murderer was never more than a blip, actually less than a blip. Never saw it coming.

I do plan on getting the rest of the series because I do want to know where Annie started. ( )

Another Annie Seymour mystery well done. I am loving that I get to know a little more about Annie with each book. It is like being her friend and learning her story naturally. Can't wait to see what she is ip to next. ( )

Annie Seymour is a crime reporter for the "New Haven Herald." She attends a bachelorette party at a New Haven adult club. When she goes outside for a cigarette, there is a body on the ground. On closer inspection, it's Ralph, Annie's former. Officials find Annie's gun in her car. There are some missing bullets and they think Ralph was shot. Police are suspecious and bring her to the New Haven police headquarters for questioning. Then set her free because the cause of death was heart attack..

When officials at Annie's paper learn of this, they take her off the crime scene and reassign her to something less controversial. This doesn't stop Annie from investigating Ralph was supposed to be testifying and where did his girl-friend disappear to and what was going on at the club.

Nicely told story where we get to know Annie through her actions and reactions to incidents and her dealing with her mother and girlfriends.

The setting is New Haven and being an area resident, I enjoyed Karen Olson's descriptions. ( )

#4 (and last, to date) Annie Seymour mystery set in New Haven, CT. Annie is a crime reporter, but in this book she ends up in the middle of her story when her ex-husband Ralph ends up dead in the parking lot of a dance club where's she's attending a bachelorette party for one of her co-workers. Shells from her gun are scattered around the body, but oddly enough, he wasn't even shot--there's not a mark on his body. And several witnesses claim to have seen Annie kissing Ralph before he died, and going from the club to her car--where her gun was found. Someone is setting her up, big time--but who? And why? Where has Ralph's current girlfriend run off to--and why was Annie's mother representing Ralph in an upcoming grand jury investigation but neglected to even let Annie know he was back in town? Something smells rotten in Denmark and Annie's determined to find out why.

I enjoyed this book, although it was a bit different in that Annie didn't share some things with the reader until much further along in the story--so we didn't really have all the clues we needed. I can understand her not sharing certain facts with Tom, the police detective handling the case (and Annie's ex-boyfriend) but with her readers? Please! LOL I still managed to figure out the major portion of the mystery anyway. I'm going to miss Annie--she's smart, irreverent, independent and very human; her town and friends are also a big part of these books and I do hope the author brings them all back at some point in time.
