For four years Rafferty Jones and Nick Tucker have worked side-by-side as police detectives in their small Maine town. But lately, Rafferty's imagination has been creating fantasies about Nick-more specifically, about Nick and him together-that have shocked Rafferty. Detailed erotic scenarios a thirty-something, set-in-his-ways straight man shouldn't be imagining. He's been struggling to keep them secret, afraid that if Nick discovers the truth it will end their friendship. But with each passing day it's getting harder and harder to pretend Nick is "just" a friend. And harder and harder for Rafferty to come to terms with the possibility he might not be as straight as he's always believed.Nick's always known he's gay and he's had deep feelings for Rafferty for years. But after a difficult experience at his former police precinct in Boston, he decided when he moved to Maine to keep his sexual orientation under wraps on the job. He wants to be acknowledged at work for what he can do, not who he's doing. And with Rafferty being straight, there's always been a clear-cut line that Nick's known he can't cross with his unsuspecting partner and best friend. And yet...for the past few months it's become difficult to remember that line. He's not sure why, he just knows that for the first time in four years his heart and his body are urging him to go for what he really wants...Rafferty.When a stormy weekend trip on Rafferty's boat gives birth to an unexpected night of passion, will it be the spark they need to forge a new and deeper relationship? Or will Nick's past and Rafferty's fear drive a wedge between them that will destroy not only their barely-begun love affair, but their partnership and friendship as well?… (plus d'informations)

As I’ve said previously, I am a huge fan of the unrequited best friend - I love you but don’t want to lose you - romance at the moment. This was a great read and I am fast becoming a total junkie for M.L. Rhodes work.

There is something very sexy about having a secret love. Every look, inadvertent touch and word is layered with meaning and I think the tension that the author created was hot. Often authors stray into the gay for you shtick, which does not float my boat, so I think she handled Rafferty coming to terms with his feelings for Nick beautifully.

What I felt was particularly hot was the scene on the boat. That feeling of pent-up sexual desire and need was smokin and I do believe my spectacles were a little fogged. merow.

I don’t think the author pulled too many punches with Rafferty’s coming out either. It was not all roses and bunnies, but did to a certain degree have a romance novel buffer between reality and fiction.

A book well worth reading with smexy goodness.

This was a nice, sensual, but too-fast read. I was still peckish when I finished it. I felt very sorry for Nick because of his past and the way Rafferty treats him the morning after. I understand, and even sympathize with what Rafferty's going through, but I still want to kick him in the teeth for hurting Nick. I think the story about Nick's past could have been hinted at a little more before the ending of the story to flesh out his character more. As it stood, his background came out after the resolution, so it had a slight "Oh, by the way..." feel to it. Over all, this was a quick read, but with a good measure of sexiness and angst. Gotta love the angst!http://iheartpaperbacks.wordpress.com ( )

Rafferty and Nick are partners. Work partners. Both detective for police in Maine since 4 years. And Rafferty is married; or unless he was married since two months before. He has found his wife in bed with another man and immediately files the divorce. Strange he is not mourning too much over it. It's long that he has stopped to love and desire his wife. And instead he has begun to deside his partner... How could it be possible? He is straight! And so is Nick! Or not? One faithful night abroad with his small boat they remain trapped in a rainstorm and in the little cabin the passion flares. But the morning after Raff is full of fear and doubts, and Nick, who is really gay and with a bad experience behind, doesn't know how to reassure his friend, now lover.

This is a medium long ebook, 100 pages, and it goes smoothly and fast. Raff and Nick are both positive characters, maybe a little too positive. Raff is a good cop, very friendly and calm; he considers himself boring and not attractive. Instead Nick, younger than 6 years, is the classical good and handsome guy, the type every woman wants, and apparently also some man... But Raff, 35 years older, when deals with feeling is like a teenager with his first crush. He wants and then he has fear, he reaches forward and then backs away... And Nick is so comprehensive. Well maybe I'd like a bit more of angry.
