Readers can see from the cover that the Terrifying Kitten is, in fact, adorable, and not scary at all. Narration in second person attempts to convince readers, with attempted warnings, that something very scary is on the very next page ("Are you sure you want to turn the page?"). But when it's finally time to "Behold the terror!" it's just a whole crew of adorable baby animals (e.g. spooky baby goat, dangerously prickly hedgehog). When a truly menacing shadow creeps around the door and onto the wall, there's a moment of tension and suspense....but it's only a friendly, curly-haired girl, reading to give the animals their bath.

Premise/plot: A "scary" kitten, perhaps the "scariest" kitten "in the world" is narrating this one and speaking directly to you, the reader. It is written in second person. It is a suspenseful or "suspenseful" story starring a kitty and her friends.

My thoughts: I liked it well enough. It isn't quite The Monster at the End of the Book. But it is fun, silly, playful. And it has a cat...the illustrations are adorable as well. ( )
