Due to this website I am now on the Street Team!! ( )Cette critique a été écrite dans le cadre des Critiques en avant-première de LibraryThing. This novel takes place in a post-apocalytic/pandemic kind of world. Paige is tasked with saving the president's life, but at what cost? Intriguing story. Well written. I would definitely read more from this author. Book 2, the events resume from book 1. Paige is the President's hope for surviving, but she is conflicted. The story is told from Paige's perspective, so everything she knows the readers know. The tenses switch throughout the book, which makes the reading a bit difficult. I received a free copy and am leaving a review voluntarily. Thank you to Booksprout, Hidden Gems Books, and author. I suspect that I missed out rather as this was book 2 in a series and I had not read the first volume so I wasn't familiar with the background to the dystopian world. However it was still an enjoyable read. One principal feature of the plot lay in the coercive control of the hero, Paige Hanson, by an evil and manipulative man to whom nothing seemed off limits. His goal was to force Dr Hanson to save the life of the President. Paige and her two friends are held in captivity and Paige goes to extraordinary lengths to protect her companions and her son, who is held captive elsewhere. Access to him is used as a cruel, but effective, tool for manipulation. The plot managed a few unexpected twists and turns and one is never quite sure who to trust. Overall a good read, although starting at book 1 is probably advisable. Cette critique a été écrite dans le cadre des Critiques en avant-première de LibraryThing. This book was interesting but not quite my cup of tea. I think maybe I would have enjoyed it more had I read the first one. One thing that I noticed and really bothered me is the beginning, "The President is sick. I can cure him. Those eight words are the reason I get to keep Georgia and Violet by my side. Why I get to keep them safe. The President is sick. I can cure him. I won't. Those ten words..." it should have been "Those nine words" and "Those eleven words." Minor thing but it really stuck in my brain for a majority of my time reading this book. I received a free copy of this book via LibraryThing Early Reviewers and am voluntarily leaving a review. Another good book in the series! I did enjoy the first book better. I felt like the twists and turns were still good in book 2 not as shocking, except the end, which was really good and I was surprised. I love the game of who can you trust. I've doubted just about every character along the way! There were a few new characters in this book and I really felt the author did a great job of building their personalities. This book is a mix of COVID, Big Brother, and Hunger Games (minus the games)!! I'm excited to read book three when it comes out!.
