Cette critique a été écrite dans le cadre des Critiques en avant-première de LibraryThing. I wasn't prepared when I recieved this book, not really understanding what it was about. Once I started reading I didn't want to put it down. I loved Contessa and Nate, their personalities and quirks are so relatable. I will happily read more of this series.I thank the author for an advance arc copy for my honest review.
Two stars. . . I was so excited to read this - but got kicked in the teeth. I love Beauty and the Beast, but this was so boring. The sentences were long with no break to shorten the writing - this novel did not need to be 688 pages. This was mediocre writing for me. Nate was as plain as an ironing board. So, stupidly awkward that I didn't feel any chemistry between the two main characters. Contessa - is just as dull, and 'making' her as witty had been such a failure. She is bland, meh, and I wanted to strangle her most of the time. This book has the potential to be so much more; please cut out the boring bits that did not advance the plot and try again. I tried so hard to love this novel - in the end I will give this a hard pass. Cette critique a été écrite dans le cadre des Critiques en avant-première de LibraryThing. I actually quite liked the storyline. The characters grew on me, and there is some really interesting potential for plot development when we learned about the Talented. Having been based on a fairytale, it had all the classic tropes and the appropriate amount of predictability, but not to the point that I didn't enjoy reading it. I think what I missed most in this book was the sense of realism as silly as that sounds. Any time a detail was pointed out, it was obvious when it was going to come back and be relevant to the plot because there was very little day to day activity to mask those events. I would have loved some more side conversations, or little outings that were still fun to read, but not explicitly for the purpose of moving the plot forward. I think it would have given us more time to get to know and bond with the characters, build the tension, and would have made it a bit easier to disguise the elements of foreshadowing. overall a good book! I was hooked from the beginning and this wonderful world created by S.C. Grayson and Mystic Owl just took me on a wild ride. The lead female character portrayed strength just like the lead male character offers vulnerability. I loved this. I was also enchanted by the rest of the characters, the antagonist and the sidekicks. It was easy to follow the story and to cheer for our leads. I had fun reading this book and I would highly recommend it, I'm straight going for Book Two of this series. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

Most London socialites dream of marrying for love or status, but Contessa's wedding is about justice-and revenge. Nathanial Woodrow is known on the streets of London as the Beast, leader of the fearsome Lion gang who mark their victims with three slashes on their face. Since her mother was found dead with the signature slashes years ago, Contessa has wanted nothing more than to see her murderer brought to justice. However, the Beast has been impeccable at maintaining his façade as the high society Mr. Nathanial Woodrow, and nobody has been able to gather enough evidence to convict him. When the Beast unexpectedly asks Contessa's father, the Chief of the Royal Police, for her hand in marriage, Contessa and her father hatch a plan to bring him down from the inside. As Contessa enters the lion's den in search of evidence to convict the Beast, she finds that not everything is as she once thought. Her father's work, hunting down Talented that use their magic to rule the criminal underworld, is thrown into question with each glimpse of the kind-hearted man beneath the mask of a hardened gang leader. As Contessa navigates her search for justice, she finds herself questioning what side she's really on, and why she finds herself drawn to a man she's supposed to hate.
