'Twice-exceptional' learners are gifted students who other learning related issues: autism, anxiety, etc. This is an excellent guide to serving these students. It has many great ideas and reference's. ( )Cette critique a été écrite dans le cadre des Critiques en avant-première de LibraryThing. A work not only for educators of Gifted but also of those learners who are effected by other issues that make learning difficult. This work is set out in a clear fashion with each chapter having its own Reference section. The chapters are set up in a way that makes it easy to se a reference and to turn to the back of the chapter and see the full citation and for many cases the web link as well. The work is laid out in such a manner to first chapter deals with the very phrase Twice-Exceptionality is explained and how its time has come is explained. The second one explains executive functions, executive skills and gifted learners. Then the remaining chapters of the work deals with the various problems faced by gifted learners, from ADHD and Autism to Dyslexia and both reading skills and math difficulty, it concludes with a chapter which deals with Anxiety and Gifted Children. The work also contains a large glossary of terms found in all the chapters and many chapters contain sections where tables of terms are explained as well as having sections that deal with both male and female specific problems and contain sections listed as from the editors which give the reader student vignettes and adds discussion questions and resources for use by the reader. This work covers a lot of information and provides a lot of ways for educators to deal with each problem. Well worth the cover price of $45.00. Once again Prufrock Press has produced another great work for educators. Cette critique a été écrite dans le cadre des Critiques en avant-première de LibraryThing. Helping gifted students with learning challenges, also known as twice-exceptional, just got a little easier with this textbook. UNDERSTANDING TWICE EXCEPTIONAL LEARNERS is filled with clear definitions, descriptions, and actionable ideas to better serve students who are twice-exceptional. The book is written to aid teachers, administrators, and parents better assist students through a strength-based approach rather than focusing on their deficits. Diagrams, vignettes, and discussion questions are strategically placed within the text to help strengthen the reader’s knowledge and help springboard that knowledge into action. One of my key takeaways from this text is that learning challenges are only a disability if you look at them that way. By perceiving learning challenges as a difference rather than a disability; we can begin accepting these learning variations and building on students’ talents rather than trying to fix their flaws. I'm studying to be a social worker, and I hope to worth with youth in foster care, and this book was so helpful to give me another perspective of the needs these youth may have. I especially appreciated the chapter on anxiety; I feel like anxiety might be a common issue among youth in the foster care system, and I liked the deep, child-centered approach this book showed. The layout of each chapter is well done and easy to navigate through. There is a really nice section on executive function that is very well written. The book covers several topics (ie, ADHD, Dyslexia, Math Difficulty, ASD) co-morbid with giftedness and provides strategies, interventions and a good list of resources for each. I feel the book was nicely done. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
