Laurel Macintosh swore to Luly and Zack Reed she would always look after them as her own, and proves it to them every day. As tensions continue to escalate in the Reed household, their parents count on her more and more. One day, however, Laurel acts on an aggravated impulse and disappears with the children, while on a sanctioned sailing trip, leaving the parents bewildered, devastated, and furious. The children enjoy the ride for a while, but eventually want to go home. Laurel and her male accomplice, however, convince them home is wherever they take them. The summary of this book does really that - it summarizes what lies ahead in this book. While it reads fairly well and quickly, it often felt very shallow and surface level to me. I did not feel particularly attached to the characters or the story. The most thrilling storyline was the last half or so of the book. Everything leading up to it felt predictable and almost unnecessary - the subtleties felt missing, instead showing obvious clues as to where the story was heading.
Overall, I enjoyed the story and premise of this book, but it was not a favorite of mine. If you're looking for a quick fun read, this does the job! (
