Beginning here was confusing at times, but I got the general idea. The premise is good, but the story lacks something. While I found it average, my son liked it much better. It is appealing to middle grade readers, and the target audience is the most important one anyway. Cette critique a été écrite dans le cadre des Critiques en avant-première de LibraryThing. I think if I'd read the book prior to this one, I'd be less confused about the story. There are too many characters that it was hard to keep track of. Some of the characters come off as bullies or hotheads. The dialogues seem forced and there were too many things happening but with very little plot development. The synopsis seemed promising and I really wanted to like this book but it felt lacking. Thank you to LibraryThing and All Points Press for the arc Cette critique a été écrite dans le cadre des Critiques en avant-première de LibraryThing. I wasn't a fan. Having not read the first installment in this series, there were too many references to the previous adventure without any context being offered as to how those references affected the the current story. Additionally, there were multiple characters whose presence did not add to the adventure - and therefore, they simply cluttered up the narrative. Last, the references to God in the last few pages seemed out of left field. Cette critique a été écrite dans le cadre des Critiques en avant-première de LibraryThing. Matt Monroe and the Haunted House is a sequel. I did not know that, or that it is not a horror story, but fantasy. There is a bit too much cursing for a MG book, in my opinion. The love triangle and girl angst was a bit much. The story is interesting, but the dynamics are a bit vague. Overall a decent story if you are into MG Fantasy. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

My 9 year old struggled with reading this. The language, especially in the prologue, was a bit above what she could understand. I think this book might be appropriate for an older middle grader or a very very strong reader.
After she decided it wasnt for her I gave it a try.
I ended up not really connecting with the characters. After 50 pages I really was annoyed with the adults in the book and wasnt connecting to the kids either. Some really interesting stuff was happening but at thst point we werent getting much of the interesting stuff and it was mostly school kids being bullied.
I dont think this was a bad book it just wasnt right for me and was too complex for my 9 yr old.
