A sort of cozy mystery, I recommend it to anyone who loves small town mysteries. The story of the death of Grace Mathison (she’s the one on the roof) some supposed she was trying to catch her cat. Of course, as the story develops, we find there is more to this -and other events- rocking the small town of Summerfield, Ohio. I felt the characters were well developed and the various story lines seamlessly integrated. I was not figuring out “whodunnit” and was enjoying the read right up to the conclusion. A very good debut novel, I would say. I look forward to more of Creager’s work. Thanks to LibraryThing, Kevin Creager and Black Rose Writing for the advanced reader copy. I was a bit intimidated by the long list of characters in the front of the book but the mystery unfolded at a comfortable pace that made it easy to keep everyone straight and it was handy to have the list to refer to. The small town of Summerfield became very familiar and you felt as if you really knew the characters. The plot took many turns, all believable, and was interesting from beginning to end. I read it quickly because I didn’t want to put it down. I’m hoping Kevin Creager keeps writing mysteries. Cette critique a été écrite dans le cadre des Critiques en avant-première de LibraryThing. Good summer who done it! A little slow to begin with but exciting ending. Full of wonderful quirky characters. The story is more than just an intriguing title. The small town of Summerfield, Ohio is saddened when popular retired school teacher Grace Mathison is found dead on her roof after a severe storm. Sadness turns to shock when the investigation reveals that Grace did not die on the roof while rescuing her cat as first assumed. This revelation leads to a domino effect as secrets are revealed, miscreants act to preserve reputation, and newly-appointed acting chief Bud Addams narrows in on the truth.I admit that there were quite a few surprises as I read this book. Grace's death is the catalyst that leads to a very entertaining mystery that is very firmly in the cozy category. The characters populating this small town can possibly be found in any small town, with a few startling idiosyncrasies. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and wouldn't mind a few more featuring Chief Bud Addams and his small police department. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

For me I didn't really take to the writing style and it was just an okay mystery.
