I read this in middle school in the late 1990's and I loved it so much that I've kept a copy since I was able to buy books. I love the characters and the fact that the time period is hardly used in historical fiction. ( ) This is such an amazing book! I read it in middle school and never since then, I still have my own copy of it. It takes place in ancient Egypt with real historical figures that once ruled in Ancient Egypt. Mara had to decide where her loyalties lie as she becomes a double agent. Should she side with the one she loves? Or should she side with the one that has greater forces? You have to read it to find out! It’s so amazing. I read this book back in middle school as part of our Ancient Egypt unit, and even then I thought it was a little cheesy. The cover makes it look like one of those quasi-romance novels, and the fact that the main character is an Egyptian with blue eyes made me think the book was pushing a Euro-centric message. The story did peak my interest in Hatshepsut, but from a feminist standpoint, not from the "women can't rule and should not hold back the rightful ruler" perspective that this book pushes. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
