This was a quick read that went off in a different direction than expected. I guess that should be considered a plus. At first I did like the main character and I found her meeting and subsequent relationship with Ulysses engrossing, however I thought the premise of the city-state a bit hard to take, especially her commitment to science in the face of this big brother-ish corporation. Then there was "Mother". So was this a sci-fi wrapped up in a dystopian romance? It got a bit weird for me anyway and l found myself doing a bit of eye-rolling at the end with the crazy death-row escape. It had promise but a lot of extraneous characters and weird action derailed it for me. ( )

This is a fast paced fantastic read!

Based on Dr Catrina, a scientist; who moved to a small town in Cochtonville; embarking on a new job role, at a huge cooperation.. She is independent and tells herself, she doesn't need a man... she in fact does yearn for companionship.

She meets a bartender; Ulysses and has instant chemistry with him. He however comes with baggage.
The laws in Cochtonville, are regimented and oppressive. No sex before marriage, contraception bans- just to name a few.
Catrina and Ulysses, are caught in the act of sexual intercourse and are "forced" to marry each other, or face the consequences- being that Catrina works for Cochtonville enterprise, she's more willing to take the option of marriage.
While trying to figure out how to make there marriage situation work, Catrina finds out about Ulyssses illegal activities... love seems to prevail, until somethimg strange starts happening to residents throughout the town and a huge crackdown on Ulysses' illegal activities leaves everything hanging in the balance... will love still prevail in the harsh realities of Cochtonville?

You won't be disappointed while you read and find out!

Here's the story about the fictional city-state of Cochtonville where a single agricultural company named Cochton Enterprise has a monopoly on nearly every business.

The plot hovers around Catrine, a young scientist hired by Cochton Enterprise, who with the help of chance falls in love to a shady bartender named Ulysses. This dubious person turns out to be an outlaw printing condoms - forbidden by Cochton laws in order to raise birth rates.

Everything is oppressive in Cochtonville. And armed goons are watching every step of its citizens. Catrine and Ulysses got caught in their love making and in order to avoid heavy punishment accept a marriage on the spot. Now Catrine explores the 'missing half' of herself and finds sympathy for the motives of her groom's illegal actions too.

The story goes wild when Cochton Enterprise creates a chemical intended to boost hog production. A molecule with a side effect: All of a sudden every male person in Cochtonville is no longer able to have an erection!

Is there a solution for this dismal town?
Of course not.

But true passion and love for science come up with a way out for freedom.
How? Well, enjoy reading like me! ( )
