Better than its predecessor These books were already on my auto-buy list, they've also been added to the 'I'll be rereading multiple times' list as well. Great work Ms. Gilman. I'm still irritated that there's no audiobook, and will continue to do so until some really, really smart person gets this done. :) I'm not entirely sure how to categorize this book, as there are so many different aspects. A little mystery, a lot of magic, political drama and wild west survival, all wrapped up in the continuing adventures of Isobel and Gabriel, characters of charm and objects of fascination for me. I find the world enthralling and the story bewitching, and Gilman lays it all out as though she were walking a magical spell. If you liked Silver on the Road, this will not disappoint. Advanced reader's copy provided by Edelweiss. The second book in the series reads well enough that if for some reason you missed the first book you are not lost at all. Isobel is growing into her job as the Devil’s Left Hand, she responds to a feeling from the Territory and is soon mixing it up with people from outside their land, magic that doesn’t want to be contained and spirits that don’t always send a clear message. Gabriel is still with Isobel but he is taking more of a back seat to her lead as she is growing in confidence being on the road and upholding the Devil’s agreement. I don’t want to give much of the plot away but the weird West feel to the book is perfect. I can’t wait for the next one to come out. "In the anticipated sequel to Silver on the Road, Isobel is riding circuit through the Territory as the Devil's Left Hand. But when she responds to a natural disaster, she learns the limits of her power and the growing danger of something mysterious that is threatening not just her life, but the whole Territory. Isobel is the left hand of the old man of the Territory, the Boss--better known as the Devil. Along with her mentor, Gabriel, she is traveling circuit through Flood to represent the power of the Devil and uphold the agreement he made with the people to protect them. Here in the Territory, magic exists--sometimes wild and perilous. But there is a growing danger in the bones of the land that is killing livestock, threatening souls, and weakening the power of magic. In the next installment of the Devil's West series, Isobel and Gabriel are in over their heads as they find what's happening and try to stop the people behind it before it unravels the Territory"-- Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |
