The Devil Wears Prada and Feminist Fight Club meet in the Paris finance world in The Creepshow, a novel of a mistreated woman who decides it's time to stand up and say #MeToo. Wanda Julienne is living the dream in Paris. Until the sexual harassment starts... Wanda has it all - the perfect job, a passionate romance, and a lust for life. But when she returns to work from maternity leave, her world is turned upside down. Suddenly, everything she does is wrong, at least in the eyes of her bully of a boss. She's blamed for things she didn't do and is set up to take a very big fall. Add in a dose of unwanted sexual advances, and Wanda, who can't afford to lose her job, is trapped watching her dream life crumble around her. To make matters worse, the problems at work spill over to her personal life as she pushes away her lover and her friends, and barely has time for her newborn baby. Can Wanda survive the cut-throat world of investment banking and reconnect with the ones she loves to find her happy ever after in Paris? "An insider's look inside the messy world of high finance-a kind of Devil Wears Prada for international investment firms-The Creepshow also delivers a poignant modern love story set in Paris. What's not to love?" - Award-winning author Amy Impellizzeri This novel can be read as a standalone or as part of the From Paris to Provence series. Each book in the series brings to life its own unique characters yet all books share the vibrant and captivating setting of France. Interview with the Author What was your inspiration to write The Creepshow? I was inspired by the current situation women face in the workplace. I feel that I've experienced discrimination in the past, and most women I've spoken with say they've also experienced it at some point or another in their careers. In so many fields and on so many levels, women fight to earn the same salaries and opportunities as male counterparts. And the situation becomes particularly complicated for many women once they have children. It sounds almost like a true story! But it's fictional, right? Now that's a compliment! I strive to make my characters and their situations believable. This is indeed a work of fiction, but the protagonist, Wanda, is going through something many women today face, which makes the book seem pretty realistic, especially in light of the #MeToo movement. One of my favorite nonfiction books about women in the workplace and in leadership roles is Lean In by Sheryl Sandberg, CEO of Facebook. Some of the themes are heavy. Can you describe some of the lighter aspects of the book as well? Wanda rekindles a romance with her ex-boyfriend, who also is the father of her baby. Throughout the book she struggles with the usual concerns of someone in a new relationship. There is also a strong theme of friendship as Wanda seeks comfort with her best friend. What do you hope readers will take away from this novel? I hope they will take away strength to fight when faced with any sort of injustice, and hope, always hope. So this book is part of a series? Yes and no. Each novel in the From Paris to Provence series brings to life its own unique characters and can be read as a standalone, but all books share the vibrant and captivating setting of France: - A Perfumer's Secret - Paris, Rue des Martyrs - The Creepshow If you like reading about strong female protagonists who do all they can to fight unfair working circumstances, you'll enjoy this novel. Thanks for reading!… (plus d'informations)

I was very interested in this book. It brought forth ethical issues in the workplace, issues with single motherhood and baby daddy, plus a great friendship that two of the main characters had. The main character returns to work after her maternity leave and finds out her investment accounts have shown significant losses since she was gone. She works to bring her clients back to where they were when she left and the company ends up terminating her. She runs into sexual harassment at work. She then files a lawsuit at the encouragement of her best friend who is an attorney. While she is dealing with all this the baby daddy shows back up in her life but he hadn't know she was pregnant. The story reveals how these two work through those issues. The book kept me interested throughout the whole thing trying to figure out how these issues were going to end. I recommend this book. ( )

I received this book as an ARC. There is a thin line between fact and fiction and this book found the balance.

All in all, the story is about empowerment. Wanda, the protagonist, goes from being a star player within her employer to losing everything because of her employer. There were parts of the book that had me outraged as Wanda's fight is mired in a swamp of lies, deceit and discrimination. This book is supposed to be fictional, but in fact Wanda's situation happens more often than not in the corporate world.

Even though I could sympathize with the protagonist's situation, I found it hard to empathize with her character. The way she treated the father of her child and her best friend definitely didn't win her any brownie points. Then there was the way Wanda turned a blind eye to the underhanded treatment her company doled out to other employees until the mistreatment focused on her. Not good girlfriend.

The book is well written and even though I wanted to smack Wanda a time or three, I was with her all the way. I especially liked that she could have played nasty and aired a lot of dirty laundry about her employer but Wanda chose not to. She took the high road. Don't know if I would have done that if it were me in the companies crosshairs. Loved the ending. ( )

Wanda Julienne works as financial analyst at Whilt Investment Services Inc. She was the perfect employee. But now that she has returned after having a baby, the company wants her gone. The colleague who filled in for her while she was on maternity leave made errors that should have gotten him fired. The company expects Wanda to repair the damage in an unreasonable amount of time. They expect her to take on more work. And on top of all this she has to deal with sexual harassment. As a single mother she cannot afford to lose her job. As all these things begin to add up, she discovers she's not alone. Other colleagues (women with children) have experienced similar treatment, but it's all being swept under the rug. Her best friend, Galina, believes she can help, but it won't be easy.

This book seemed to lack depth. Women being treated poorly in the work place is a serious thing, but Wanda didn't really do anything until her friend basically forced her to and that wasn't until towards the end of the book. It was boring to read. And Wanda was so annoying. Always pushing the father of her child away even though she wanted to be with him and keeping the baby a secret from him and getting mad when he went to city hall and declared paternity.. grow up! Annoying! ( )

I thought this book was alright. The story was based on workplace discrimination and sexual harassment against females. I found it hard to get into the characters heads and that the story was a little choppy but I did stick it out and finish the book without too much trouble following the story.
I would read more from this author since I may not have liked this story more because of the content and not the writing style.
I received this book through LibraryThing early reviewers for my honest review. ( )

Wanda experiences sexual harassment and unfair practices at her investment job, and decides to fight back, even if it threatens her livelihood. She has another mouth to feed, with a new baby on hand; what happened with the baby daddy is another facet of the story. Add to this a glamorous Paris setting and you have an interesting novel. ( )
