Chronicles of a Gentlewoman is an action-packed thriller series set in an alternate history Victorian steampunk world. The Tower of Babbage brings readers to the ruins of Central America. A motion-picture crew has gone missing in the mysterious jungles of Southern Mexico while filming ancient Mayan ruins. Desperate to learn the fate of an old friend, gentlewoman Aldora Fiske sponsors an expedition into the heart of the rainforest. Little does she realize that the filmmakers were not the only ones interested in the clockwork secrets that Charles Babbage left behind. Can she rescue the crew, or is she already too late to save the man she once loved?… (plus d'informations)

An enjoyable and fast-paced novella! I would have liked to know what happened to some of the characters afterwards, but overall I am satisfied with the story. I also loved Aldora! ( )

I am hooked on Michael Coolim’s Galvanic Steampunk World! This is the second of his novelettes that I have read and the first where Aldora Fiske took center stage. She is definitely my hero! I look forward to reading the whole series. I received this book from Library Thing to read and review. ( )

In this Galvanic Century piece, we get to see more of Alton Bartleby's fiance, Aldora Fiske. Infinitely capable, she leads a mission to rescue a missing film crew that disappeared at some Mayan ruins that were said to have been visited by Charles Babbage. Throw in a crazed evil mastermind plotting world domination, a too-wise-for-her-age orphan, and a completely ruined wardrobe, and Aldora has her hands full. Can a mere woman save them all?

I liked the premise of this story as well as how overall capable Aldora is. I always adore strong female leads. However, there is something missing, some connection that just isn't there. She seems very cold, expect perhaps in the final scenes with Penny. I can't figure out her relationship with Bartleby. On the surface it appears to be simply a marriage of convenience. Is there any emotional attachment between them? It's hard to tell having only read this brief piece, but I will be reading March of the Cogsmen, so I hope these questions get answered there. ( )

I enjoyed reading this book. It has a good story line. I would like to see the story expanded. There is so much going on in the story and the details are sketchy. I was left wondering what happened to the native and several other people in the story. ( )

I recently won this e-book from LibraryThings. com in an exchange for a review. This is not my normal realm of genre so it took me a lot longer to get into than I would have liked. That and the fact that I was also reading 4 other books in between. I've never read Steampunk before, but I willing to give it a try.

First I am in the middle of Mayan ruins then I am in Victorian England which was a bit confusing for me. Aldora Fiske's character was strong which I liked. Very eclectic yet outspoken and determined. It does seem that the characters are much older. For me I didn't mind there was Spanish/ Latin for I can translate both, however I'm sure not everyone can else can. Maybe there should be more translation for people.

I gave it a shot, it's just not a series for I guess. ( )
